Job Description

The primary responsibility will be performing laboratory tests, including GC-MS and LC-MS/MS analyses, to determine levels of chemical characteristics of food, feed, crop, soil and water samples.

This full-time position is located in Brookings, SD and will work Wednesday through Sunday.

· Perform lab analysis on a variety of food products and agricultural products/commodities, utilizing prescribed SOPs and official analysis methods.

· Follow Standard Operating Procedures and perform quality control procedures to ensure quality of analyses for required ISO 17025 or other certification level.

· Set up, adjust, maintain and operate laboratory equipment including GC-MS and LC-MS/MS.

· Validate data for quality and conformance to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and release customer information within LIMS.

· Perform extractions using standard industry methods along with methods developed in house.

· Perform data analysis and evaluate calibration, quality control, and sample results.

· Assist with preparing samples for analytical testing as needed.

· Assist in method development and/or validation.

· Record test results utilizing prescribed data reporting methodology.

· Calibrate laboratory instruments to specified technical requirements.

· Troubleshoot in analysis and equipment when quality does not meet specifications.

· Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.

· Communicate with clients regarding their analysis needs and questions.

· Ensure laboratory area and equipment is cleaned and organized.

· Insure quality and confidentiality of client and company information and take an active role in updating Quality System.

· Maintain quality protocols for testing area and implement preventative practices.

Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· B.S. degree with a concentration in Chemistry or other relevant science area.

· Knowledgeable in data reporting, technical requirements and general market drivers, LIMS and other applications.

· Must be proficient in computer software and use of communication tools.

· Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.

· Excellent analytical skills with the ability to make sound suggestions or recommendations.

· Ability to work independently, often under time-sensitive situations, within a team environment.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.

· Excellent organization skills which includes the ability to execute several assignments simultaneously.

Preferred:

· B.S. degree, plus 1-2 years of prior experience in a laboratory setting.
