The Office of Victim Assistance (OVA) provides advocacy and short term counseling to university students, staff and faculty who are impacted by disruptive and disturbing life events, typically crime and policy violations. The Victim Advocate Counselor, Multicultural Specialist will work on a team to provide free and confidential short-term counseling, advocacy, support and information to members of the University community. This position will specifically focus on supporting underrepresented students, staff, and, faculty. The position will collaborate with other campus departments as appropriate for the support of OVA clients and ensures that issues of equity and social justice are considered in all advocacy, counseling, and training services provided. This position will provide support and training in multiculturalism and the intersection of trauma to OVA staff. This position also involves presenting about our response services, topic areas, and how to support survivors. OVA is in the division of Student Affairs at the University of Colorado Boulder, specifically in Health and Wellness Services.What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeAdvocacy and Counseling

Provide confidential entry-point and follow-up services including: short-term counseling, crisis intervention, advocacy, referrals, accompaniment, information on system-wide operations (criminal, administrative, medical, academic and civil options), victim outreach, on- and off-campus service coordination, problem solving, and support to students, staff, and faculty.

Administrative

Participate in weekly case consultation and staff meetings with other members of the OVA team.

Record client interventions and statistics by completing case notes, release of information forms, and other documentation.

Collaboration, Outreach, and Education

Collaborate with colleagues on projects, such as the delivery of trainings, educational materials, etc.

Provide multicultural outreach, training and consultation to CU Boulder students, faculty, and staff on trauma, with particular focus on serving the needs of diverse, historically marginalized, and underrepresented populations, including African-American/Black, Asian-American, Latinx/Hispanic, Native American, LGBTQ, international, undocumented, and veteran populations.

What You Should KnowThis position is required to carry an on-call cell phone for emergency response during business hours during each part of the week. Master’s degree or higher in social work, counseling or related field.

Clinically licensed in the State of Colorado (LPC, Psychologist or LCSW) or transferable to the state of CO by date of hire.

At least two years of clinical experience providing direct client services.

At least two years of experience providing advocacy and crisis intervention.

Experience with a trauma-informed approach to clinical and advocacy services, including working with issues related to gender based violence, such as sexual assault, partner abuse, stalking, experiences of bias and discrimination.

Experience and interest in working with people from multicultural backgrounds and marginalized populations.

Experience giving trainings on multiculturalism and the intersection of trauma.

What You Will Need

Good communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff and a diverse range of constituents.

Knowledge of victims’ rights, Title IX and or Title VII.

Experience working with diverse populations and proven dedication to social justice and inclusive excellence.

Organized and detailed.

What We Would Like You To Have

Public speaking experience.

Experience working in a university or college setting.

Experience conducting sessions in other languages, such as Spanish, Mandarin, or Arabic.

At least two years of post-license clinical experience providing direct client services.
