The Research Assistant will provide technical and research-oriented services in the Laboratory of Infectious Disease Prevention (LIDP) of the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute at the New York Blood Center to support the conduct of HIV, COVID-19, and other infectious disease epidemiology and prevention studies. We have several research assistant positions available.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team involved in HIV, COVID-19, and other infectious epidemiology and prevention research, including HIV and COVID-19 vaccines and other biomedical preventions. The LIDP conducts National Institutes of Health (NIH)-sponsored HIV and COVID-19 prevention studies.

This paid per diem position (part time or full time) requires a bright, self-motivated and highly organized individual with strong communication skills who is quick to learn new skills and techniques, and feels comfortable working independently as well as with others in a clinical research setting. The candidate must be available to work at least 20 hours per week on-site, minimum 9-12 months. The position is a paid per diem position.

RESPONSIBILITIES ARE MULTIFACETED AND WILL DEPEND ON THE NEEDS OF THE LAB AND INTERESTS OF THE CANDIDATE. They may include some of the following:

- Assist with recruitment and community engagement activities, including social media outreach, for HIV and COVID-19 vaccine and prevention research studies

- Assist with screening participants into HIV and COVID-19 vaccine and prevention research studies

- Assist with providing informed consent to study participants for studies

- Assist with entering research data into the appropriate electronic databases, data status tracking, reviewing study databases for incomplete/missing data, and other data issues

- Assist with quality assurance and quality control activities as assigned to ensure that study data are entered and transmitted accurately in a timely fashion.

- Assist with transporting study product or lab specimens from pharmacy to study site, or from study site to lab

- Assist with processing lab specimens

- Maintain files for storage of research documents

- Generate and distribute reports as necessary

- Adhere to a policy of strict confidentiality concerning all documents, data, and information maintained within the lab

- Adhere to the lab’s Standard Operating Procedures for all data management responsibilities

- Candidate will perform additional related administrative duties as assigned

The Research Assistant works under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator, coinvestigator(s), and study site coordinator. Assignments are routine, but may include duties of a more complicated nature.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requires a bachelor's degree, with at least 1 year of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience. Candidates pursuing an MPH or MS degree in epidemiology or related field preferred.

Strong decision-making skills and independent problemsolving is critical. Orientation to detail, ability to maintain accurate records, andhandle multiple projects and interact with staff at all levels is required. Computer skills and strong communication skills are essential. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is essential.

Knowledge of HIV prevention strategies, HIV/ AIDS, COVID-19, and infectious disease or other clinical and laboratory research is a plus.
