Both team effort and individual employee expertise are supported and sustained.This position is an Aircraft Mechanic for the Air Operations Section and is responsible for modifying, maintaining, and repairing department aircraft, aircraft components, and aircraft support equipment to ensure airworthiness according to department policies and federal and state laws. Duties also include performing critical airworthiness inspections of department aircraft, aircraft components, and aircraft support equipment; conducting purchasing and maintaining inventories to ensure the department’s air fleet is maintained in compliance with federal, state and department procurement and inventory tracking requirements; and conducting the procedures of the maintenance test flight program to ensure operational safety and legal compliance of department fixed and rotary wing aircraft.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESAircraft Design, Modification, Maintenance and Repair:Assist in developing and implementing uniquely specialized aircraft parts, components, and maintenance programs to ensure that aircraft and related support equipment are fully operational, safe, and reliable to perform dangerous missions in conditions that are detrimental to unmodified, ordinary aircraft in accordance with department policies and state and federal laws.Aircraft Inspection and Certification:Assist in performing critical airworthiness inspections of department aircraft, aircraft components, and aircraft support equipment to provide the most efficient and safe maintenance program possible and to ensure compliance with FAA regulations, State of Montana air operation policies, and manufacturer and department requirements.Purchasing and Inventory:Perform section procurement and inventory tasks to maintain adequate supplies, equipment and materials for the department’s air fleet in compliance with federal, state and department procurement and inventory tracking requirements.Supervision:This position does not regularly supervise other positions.If you are interested in a complete job description please contact HR at Jennifer.Downing@mt.gov.What are some benefits that you can expect from working at DNRC?Paid Vacation, Sick Leave and HolidaysHealth CoverageRetirement PlansPublic Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) – Employment with the State of Montana may qualify you to receive student loan forgiveness under the PSLF.  Look here, https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/repay-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service to learn more and see if you may qualify! APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS: The DNRC may include the following factors in determining whether an applicant meets the qualifications of a position vacancy by: State of MT application form, cover letter, current resume, educational requirements, structured interview, a performance test, job-related reference checks, job-related work experience, job-related past and current performance.   Approximately 25% travel time with occasional overnight travel.APPLICATION MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSTION ARE: Your online State of Montana application, and an attached document with your answers to the following questions. Submit a copy of your satisfactory completion of formal training and education in aviation technology from an accredited manufacturers or trade school.

Describe any educational and/or work experience as it relates to performing maintenance functions on a Bell UH-1 and Jet Ranger Series Helicopters, and Cessna 180 series airplanes.

Describe your work experience when you have worked on an aircraft in field conditions such as helibase type operations.

List any computer training that you have received that will enable you in performing A & P and IA duties and responsibilities.

FAA-Certified Airframe and Powerplant Technician -

FAA Certified Inspection Authorization

USFS-Certified Helicopter Mechanic

The incumbent must remain run-up qualified in the following aircraft:

Single-engine Cessna - C180, 182, and 185

Helicopters - Light Bell Jet Ranger and Medium Bell UH-1H

SPECIAL INFORMATION:Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.ELIGIBILITY TO WORK:In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act, the person selected must produce within three days of hire documents that show authorization to work in the United States.
