As a Staff Engineer, you will have the opportunity to become a key member of the Cloud Platform Persistence group. The platform persistence group has teams that provide storage API for higher layer applications, build our Time Series capability and/or work to scale our application platforms. Depending on the nature of the data, the storage systems include relational database, non-relational database such as columnar database, time series database, or message queue system. Our largest customers are always pushing the limits of the backend storage in terms of size of the data, speed of IO, as well as number of concurrent transactions. You’ll work toward managing our explosive data growth and ensuring our systems remain available and highly responsive. Performance, reliability and scalability is always at the core of our work. Given the ServiceNow platform footprint, even the smallest optimization can have a dramatic impact for our customers and our bottom line. What you’ll do and need to know:You’ll work directly with other colleagues within the team and cross functionally in solving challenging problems in scaling and querying large data sets efficiently both vertically and horizontally.

You’ll collaborate closely with cross functional DevOps team on our owns team database software deployment provisioning and execution.

Assist the team in identifying and monitoring key metrics to support operational excellence of active systems

Someone who has demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies quickly will be successful

Demonstrated success completing complex projects, on time

Experience working in a DevOps environment

Familiarity with a Linux command prompt for both administration and shell scripting

Aptitude for learning new technologies quickly

Intermediate level understanding of Centos/RHEL OS and experience installing & maintaining services.

Experience with troubleshooting difficult production issues e.g. memory leaks, network problems, intermittent failures etc. across the stack

Relational Database Experience: Developing on, troubleshooting, and optimizing performance

6+ years of software development experience.

Fluency in Unix shell.

Experience with a high-level, server-side scripting language, including multithreading.

Experience with Shell scripting.

Solid knowledge of operating system concepts: processes, file systems, security, etc.

Knowledge and/or experience with relational databases: Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, PostgresSQL, MS SQLServer.

Experience developing, building, and maintaining a platform for a large-scale Enterprise Application with 10,000+ physical hosts.

Nice to have:Experience with Core Java Development.

Loves database technologies with experience developing, troubleshooting, and optimizing relational databases including Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, PostgresSQL, MS SQL Server, as well as time series database technologies.

Familiarity with Puppet, Jenkins, Vagrant, VirtualBox, and RubyMine are a plus.

Familiarity with Cloud Technologies - OpenStack, AWS, or Azure are a plus.
