Notice of Result letters will not be sent to applicants who respond to this flyer.ResponsibilitiesYou will install, modify, and repair new and existing high-pressure piping systems and equipment such as steam-heating, steam generation, hydraulic systems, and etc.You will work from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, pitch, elevation, pressure reduction, expansion, and operation of various piping systems and equipment.You will determine and install risers, flexible branches, expansion joints, pumps, systems and that ensure the proper operation of the systems.You will join, seal, and test systems and equipment for proper pressures, leak-free joints, and operation.You will replace heat exchangers, flash and expansion tanks, and automatic and manual control valves.RequirementsConditions of EmploymentQualificationsAlthough a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a PIPEFITTER without more than normal supervision performing common tasks including: Installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing high-pressure piping systems and equipment such as, steam-heating, hydraulic systems, flash and expansion tanks, condensate, vacuum systems, radiators and circulating pumps. Several vacancies may be filled. This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. May be required to perform shift work, work overtime and/or be called back. May be required to work other than normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays Recruitment incentives may be authorized to eligible new hires. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized. A 40 hour work week is typical for this position. PHYSICAL EFFORT:Incumbent makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. The work involves standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May handle, lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, may lift and carry items that weigh over 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS:The work is done inside and outside, and is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. May be required to make installations and repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes are present. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of uncomfortable heat conditions. The work may involve exposure to the possibility of strains, cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, and infections. May occasionally be exposed to the possibility of broken bones. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
