Job Title: Wetland Consultant

Location: Port Angeles, Washington, under the Olympic Mountains. Potential for remote work throughout Jefferson, Kitsap and Thurston County.

Hours: 40-50 hours per week in Summer, 30-40 hours a week in Winter.

Travel obligation: 25% overnight travel

Overtime obligation: Limited overtime commitment.

Compensation: $47,000-$65,000 per year, or more depending on positioning with the company. 75% Health insurance, company vehicle, IRA retirement plan, training and conference allowance, profit sharing, fun and passionate working environment.

We provide natural resource and environmental consulting services, wilderness and environmental construction, and vegetation management services.

Job Description:

Candidate is seasoned wetland and aquatic resource professional – this is not an entry level position. Individual will independently and objectively assess and report on aquatic resources including wetlands, shorelines, and streams in order to address client’s needs and comply with relevant environmental regulation. Candidate should have 2+ years’ experience in Western Washington wetland field assessments, writing wetland delineation reports and related correspondence, and completing ECY’s WRS for WW.

Employee will work alone and as part of a team as needed per project requirements. Position will perform multiple tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines, prioritizing work, managing own time, and facilitating teamwork.

40-70% of our annual workload is residential, the rest being comprised of non-profit, commercial, and municipal. Ideal client will have experience working for a small company and have independent clientele to bring to the company, and seek out and secure new clients as part of their tenureship.

General Requirements

  • Independently interpret and understand environmental regulations across local, state, and federal levels, including local critical area codes, shoreline master plans, WDFW, DNR, USFWS, JARPA, USACE, etc.
  • Clearly and efficiently communicate with clients, including project inception, client education, regulatory compliance information, and scientific concepts.
  • Independently provide scientific and technical expertise in wetlands and shorelands identification and delineation, functional assessments, development of mitigation plans, and evaluation of project impacts.
  • Manage client, project, and company information in a series of local and Cloud systems.
  • Interpret and follow technically complex procedures and protocols.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office applications and their functionality.
  • Knowledge and experience using scientific field equipment (e.g. Laser rangefinder, diameter tape, soil sampling devices, GIS/GPS logging equipment).
  • Experience in ArcGIS a plus. Preferred experience in AutoCAD.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree with major study in a natural science, PREFERABLY in aquatic resources AND three years of professional field work aquatic resources

OR

  • A Master’s degree with major study in a natural science PREFERABLY in aquatic resources AND one year of professional field work field work aquatic resources.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to complete field assessments in all weather conditions, in all terrain in Washington and Oregon.
  • Ability to maintain observational focus for long periods under hot, cold and inclement weather conditions.

Special Requirements

  • Ability to safely operate a 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive vehicle on paved and unpaved roads with attention avoiding injury to self and others and/or damage to vehicle.
  • Participates in team meetings, communicates status of ongoing projects and/or tasks, and coordinates work schedules with team for the purpose of maintaining open communication.
  • Implements workplace culture elements including professionalism, accountability, promotion of an inclusive environment, strict emphasis on employee safety.
  • Actively pursues advanced training in your field and relevant professional organizations.

Compensation Package

  • $41,600-$62,400, depending on experience.
