Position: Bus Driver / Full-Time

Mission Statement:

Starkey nurtures development and promotes independence of people with intellectual disabilities.

Summary of Position:

This position is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and courteous transportation for individuals receiving services at Starkey throughout the community. All duties listed below are essential functions of the position.

General Responsibilities:

Transport persons served as scheduled by transportation supervisor and transportation manager.

Adhere to the time line of the route schedule.

Notify transportation supervisor if there are any issues or changes needed with the set schedule.

Responsible for persons served from door to door.

Make face to face contact with contact person at all community living or personal residential setting as noted before pulling away from the location.

Accurately complete all paperwork including, but not limited to route sheets, mileage sheets, and route count sheets and turn in to the transportation supervisor weekly.

Physically walk-through bus after each run and upon completion of daily route.

Initial the mileage sheet reflecting walk-through was completed.

Check internal mail box daily for written communications, notifications, and publications.

Responsible for the cleanliness of vehicle assigned, both interior and exterior.

Report all needed repairs to mechanic and transportation manager.

Schedule oil changed and service every 3000 miles or as needed.

Submit and successfully pass Department of Transportation medical certification.

Maintain Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Develop a safety conscious attitude.

Complete the pre and post trip vehicle inspection daily.

Treat persons served, parents, guardians, staff, and other drivers with dignity and respect.

Develop positive supportive relationships with the persons served.

Communicate using person first language.

Use and encourage communication with persons served that is positive and respectful, and promotes independence.

Display the energy of caring by being active in meeting the needs of persons served.

Promote the independence of persons served.

Other duties as assigned.

Demonstrate effective communication skills by conveying necessary information accurately, listening effectively and asking questions when clarification is needed.

Maintain positive and supportive relationships with coworkers.

Represent the organization professionally at all times.

Take the initiative to offer assistance and support to meet the mission of the organization.

Act in a manner that is an example to both persons served and coworkers.

Participate in meetings and in-service training, as required.

Serve and actively participate on committees, as requested.

Adhere to assigned work and training schedule.

Properly use and maintain all equipment.

Immediately report any accidents and/or injuries that occur on the job.

Regular and routine attendance is expected.

Education:

High school diploma from an accredited state program or general equivalency degree (GED). In addition, Starkey, Inc. will accept the Work-Keys Bronze Certificate.

Experience:

Three (3) years driving experience and one (1) year working with individuals with disabilities preferred.

Requirement:

Valid Kansas driver's license or from the state they reside, with commercial driver's license (CDL) endorsement,and DOT medical examiner's certificate. Will assist the right candidate in obtaining CDL;however, it must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Pay Rate:$10.47 an hour
