DESCRIPTION Job summaryThe Amazon Web Services (AWS) Database Migration Service (DMS) team is looking for an experienced Software Dev Engineer - Test to help build and operate our large-scale validation service. The DMS service enables customers replicate data from 12 data sources, including databases such as Oracle, MySQL and SQL Server, to 15 different data targets, including PostgreSQL, S3 and Kafka, in near real time. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about the quality of the products they ship. You should be self-driven to achieve the defined business goals, while working closely with other engineers in the organization to address quality and reliability problems in the product.You will hold a central role in the team, driving the validation of the product. You will work with other software engineers and database engineers to author and update test content in our system. You will be responsible for managing and reporting the test results for the overall system and helping the team evaluate the quality of the product. You will have the opportunity to build, architect, and code test frameworks that drive the testing for DMS components and work on data reporting and analytics to help identify patterns of problems in the system. You will also have an opportunity to investigate problems in the product, including correctness and performance issues, and help your peers resolve those issues. Previous experience working with large scale validation systems for databases or storage systems is a requirement for this role. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years' non-internship professional software development and testing experience
  • Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C, or C# including object-oriented design
  • 2+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Working knowledge of the relational database engines like SQLServer, Oracle, MySQL and Postgres.
  • Experience using streaming services such as Kafka, Elasticsearch and Kinesis
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and DynamoDB.
  • Knowledge and experience working with networking, virtualization and Linux kernel modules are a plus
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Motivated to drive tasks to completion and take ownership of projects.
  • Demonstrated passion for user experience design and improving usability.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and agile development environment.
