with clients across western and central Washington and northern Michigan. Our clients include the

public, private, non-profit, and industrial sectors. We provide natural resource and environmental

consulting services, wilderness and environmental construction, and vegetation management services.

Job Description:

We are interested in hiring a regional arboricultural consultant who can work objectively, independently,

safely, intelligently and with enthusiasm. This is not an entry-level position though specific, advanced

level training will be provided to the right candidate. Project and company ownership, independent

performance, and outstanding communications skills are mandatory. We offer competitive

Arboricultural consulting includes 1) tree, shrub, and plant health assessments, 2) tree risk evaluation

and management, 3) tree inventories, 4) view management, 5) substantial report and plan writing.

Candidate will also work within native and urban forests, conducting forest health assessments, and

writing forest management plans.

Position will objectively navigate, assess, and evaluate native forests, urban/suburban remnant forests,

and urban/suburban non-forested trees. Clearly transitioning from field notes to a written, efficient and

communicable document is essential: technical writing skills are a must. Individual will independently

and objectively report on these resources in order to successfully meet client’s objectives and comply

with relevant environmental regulation.

Position requires current certification with the International Society of Arboriculture as a Certified

Arborist and Tree Risk Assessment Qualification.

Position will perform multiple tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines, prioritizing work and

managing own time. Working both independently and as part of a team are required skills, as are

coordination with others and facilitation of teamwork. Employee will work alone and as part of a team as

needed per project requirements.

General Requirements

Primary duties include:

  • Clearly and efficiently communicate with clients, including project inception, client

education, regulatory compliance information, and biological concepts.

  • Assess individual trees for management recommendations, to include, pruning, causal

factors of condition, risk management, installation, tree selection, etc.

  • Investigate and research tree pests and pathogens. This will require understanding of plant

physiology and pest/pathogen ecology.

  • Assess individual trees for near-construction safety and longevity, understanding of bestavailable-science in regard to construction near trees, and understanding of local code

regulating construction near trees.

  • Identify wildlife habitat features and other forest structural components. Identify, evaluate,

and catalogue forest components.

  • Write mitigation plans for tree removals within environmentally sensitive areas, according

to relevant municipal codes.

  • Correctly identify a large number of woody and herbaceous plants across Washington state,

both native and non-native. Correctly identify Pacific Northwest ecosystems and their

corresponding plant communities.

  • Work in team environment with other biological science professionals.
  • Manage client and project information in a series of Cloud based databases.
  • Use Microsoft Office, especially MS Word and Excel, in a proficient and technical manner.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree with major study in a natural science, PREFERABLY arboriculture, urban

forestry, forestry, horticulture, plant physiology, etc. AND three years of professional field

work in arboriculture, forestry, or another natural sciences field.

OR

A Master’s degree with major study in a natural science PREFERABLY arboriculture, urban

forestry, forestry, horticulture, plant physiology, etc. AND one year of professional field work

in arboriculture, forestry, or another natural sciences field.

OR

Six years or progressive experience working with trees and other plants.

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office applications and their functionality.
  • Ability to maintain observational focus for long periods under cold and inclement weather

conditions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and carry 30 pounds on foot, over rough terrain of varying

difficulty, including steep areas and dense vegetation.

Special Requirements

  • Clean driving record.
  • Ability to safely operate a 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive vehicle on paved and unpaved roads

with attention avoiding injury to self and others and/or damage to vehicle.

  • Participates in team meetings, communicates status of ongoing projects and/or tasks, and

coordinates work schedules with team for the purpose of maintaining open communication.

  • Implements workplace culture elements including professionalism, accountability,

promotion of an inclusive environment, strict emphasis on employee safety.

  • Actively pursues advanced training in your field and relevant professional organizations.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for natural resource and environmental management.
  • Ability to use laser-range finder, relascope, compass, GPS unit, etc in the field.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS or AutoCAD highly preferred.

Compensation Package

  • Competitive wage: $20-$35 depending on qualifications and work history.
  • One-week vacation first year, growing by 1-week each year. (Accrued hourly.)
