Here is what our last Administrator had to say about working at UMS for the last 3 years:

“Working at UMS has been an incredible gift. I’ve found myself naturally healing from a lot of fear and anxiety that built up over years of working in more “traditional” workplaces. Joa’s presence as a boss and a leader is very healing. Mistakes are allowed, and worked through with conscious dialogue and a very solutions based, “moving forward” outlook. We learn from all that we do, and use our knowledge to do better in every way. This has helped me heal my fear of masculine power.

Communication is key in this position. I’ve learned to discuss everything openly, and take any and all feedback given. We have many projects going on simultaneously, and it is incredibly important to communicate with Joa before “pulling the trigger” on anything. This has helped me heal my feminine voice, that I would often hide and try to complete projects on my own, so that I didn’t have to communicate.

Be prepared to have a lot of balls in the air at all times and keep track of everything. I have found that keeping ongoing lists allows me to jump around between projects as needed, but always come back and complete everything (at some point!).

Joa values work life balance and working smarter, not harder. This has been one of the greatest gifts for me. I feel valued and respected because of this. I’ve never really felt respected in a workplace regardless of my title, because my time outside of work was never valued. We do work hard while we’re in the office and we get a lot done, but we breathe and laugh a lot and leave “work” behind when we walk out the door.

My best advice would be prepared to switch gears a lot. Be open to the flow of the day, and what was important in one moment may change and shift into something completely new. Joa has created this beautiful school and has so much creative vision and many projects going on. You will have your hands in everything and need to be able to allow things to unfold as Joa sees fit, while still providing honest feedback and your thoughts to him. If something doesn’t seem right or you have a thought or idea, let him know! He is receptive and grateful, and may or may not follow your thoughts, as he always follows his heart and inner guidance.

This is an INCREDIBLY special place to work. There is no where else like UMS on planet earth.”
