Candidates are expected to bring knowledge or expertise in several of the following areas with an eagerness to learn in other areas:
Desired Skills & Experience:
College or University degree in Computer Science or Information Systems
Solid understanding of TCP/IP, MPLS, and routing protocols (BGP, IBGP, OSPF).
Solid understanding of Layer 2 Switching, VLANS, and trunking
Preferred Competency:
Some understanding of carrier-grade SIP architecture.
Some understanding of hosted VoIP systems
Exposure to various transport technologies including xDSL, GPON, active ethernet, and fixed wireless
How you will spend your day:
Although the amount of time spent on one responsibility vs. another will vary quite a bit depending on the current project load. Below is the estimated overall division of responsibilities for this position.
Project Work (50%) Includes network upgrades, new site provisioning, and special project customer installs
Team Support (25%) Includes training other team members and other departments to used new technologies, working with CTO to develop new processes to standardize and streamline installs, and working with other departments to increase understanding and competence
Network Maintenance (25%) Troubleshooting, and maintaining existing voice and data network installations
Specific examples of things you will do:
Work to standardize and upgrade existing network equipment
Assist in prioritizing network projects
Design new facility installations
Recommend upgrades to existing installations to add new capabilities or extra capacity
Analyze and resolving technical network problems
Interface with the business support team regarding business user issues involving network and voice services
Interface with the business support team involving to design and provision complex business voice and data installs.
Assist in the design and implementation of voice services infrastructure
Participate in on-call rotation for network and internal systems
