GENERAL PURPOSE:The Associate Analyst will be apart of a distinctive bi-coastal team, primarily populated by formerconsultants from top-tier firms (Bain, BCG, McKinsey and others). The AssociateAnalyst should expect to interact with key operators as well as other strategyteam members in New York and Dublin, and support the presentation of findingsto the top executives of the company (including the CEO, COO, Chief Merchantsand EVP Planning).At Ross, the Strategy groupaddresses significant strategic issues for the company and serves two mainfunctions:

“Internal consulting” :Strategy supports other functionalgroups on projects where they do not have either the capacity or theanalytical capabilities to do the work themselves.Strategy’s role includes managing cross-functionalteams, breaking down complex problems, and communicating with executives.

Business strategy : Strategy isresponsible for analyzing the external environment (competitors, consumerpreferences, and the economy) in an effort to develop long-term strategicgrowth options and competitive responses to industry forces.

Examples of possible projects include:

Business performance drivers –Analyze various performance metrics (often at the store level) includingsales, transactions, and inventory

Consumer research – Conduct andanalyze quantitative and qualitative consumer research in order to betterunderstand our customers’ attitudes and behavior (e.g. which productcategories are most important to shoppers, how do customers view Ross vs.our competitors)

Cross-functional initiatives –Collaborate with other functional groups to conduct analyses for keyexecutive-level priorities (e.g. new store format improvement,roll-out strategy for new business opportunities.

Perform practical, action oriented, &comprehensive data analysis in support of strategic business initiatives andkey cross-functional initiatives

Conduct analysis – including pulling data,building models and analyzing financial, operational or statistical data

Develop compelling materials to communicateresults of analysis and key insights internally and externally

Analyze business problems and problem solvesolutions with strategy team and key stakeholders

Learn and understand the off-price business anddiagnose key business problems. Create hypotheses on how to solve criticalbusiness ideas and prove them with rigorous data analytics.

Monitor ongoing and ad hoc internal and externalevents

Provide ad hoc business and competitiveintelligence and insights for key senior executives: e.g. new storeperformance, competitive information, macro-economic conditions, gas prices,impact of competitive activity

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

Top-tierundergraduate college degree, preferably with analytical or business background

Interestin management consulting and business strategy

Intellectual curiosity (candidate proactively pursues learning opportunities)

A clear understanding of basic business, financial, statistical, and economic concepts

Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Strong written and oral communication skills

Able to work effectively both individually and as a member of a team

Strong fundamental technical skills - must be Excel and PowerPoint proficient

Organized and detail-oriented

Retail experience is a plus, but no necessary
