City of Hope has established the Office of Transformation, which is designed to lift the organization to realize its vision by partnering with leaders across the enterprise to drive and support our most important strategic priorities and key initiatives, as well as deliver an organizational culture of speed, focus, connectedness and enterprise. This team supports activities such as large-scale program management, operating model design, enterprise readiness & integration and change strategy, strategic planning, and performance management of enterprise initiatives. Position Summary Reporting to the Executive Director, Organization Transformation, the Director, Transformation Program Management will oversee and lead teams in the successful execution of a portfolio of initiatives related to one or more of the organization’s strategic objectives. The Director is responsible for developing the program management delivery offering and implementing as appropriate to the strategic initiatives and other enterprise-wide priorities at City of Hope and for assessing which Transformation Office service offerings should be delivered to the client in service of the initiatives’ goals and objectives. This role serves as a thought partner to the Executive Directors in identifying and assessing the program management and service delivery strategy for strategic initiatives and other enterprise-wide priorities. This role is also responsible for bringing expertise and building method, training and coaching the team, and driving enterprise-wide standards for program management, change strategy, and operating model design, leveraging best industry and internal practices The characteristics of a strong Director, Transformation Program Management include:

A proven track record in designing and delivering complex large-scale programs with multiple projects and workstreams

Ability to establish and run an effective Program Management Office, which includes management of a team, deployment of tools, and expertise in program management processes (such as but not limited to: Project Online, Earned Value Management, Critical Path Method, Waterfall / Scrum / Agile, Dependency Management, Work Break Down Structure)

Understand and stay at the forefront of leading edge program delivery methods and tools

Ability to communicate the value of PMO processes to stakeholders at all levels of the enterprise

Drive risk management and mitigation through robust governance and procedures

Ability to perform the Program Director or PMO Director role on a large and/or complex program

Provide financial metrics, value realization, and other reports for executive leadership on program performance

Ability to effectively and clearly articulate program risks, concerns and issues; ability to effectively position solutions to achieve portfolio objectives

Ability to frame business cases and establish governance structures for strategic initiatives

Ability to act as a catalyst for the “new” and drive City of Hope’s culture of agility and innovation

Understand both the Enterprise vision and Organization Transformation’s vision and objectives and ensure Transformation activities are aligned with these

High emotional intelligence when facilitating alignment between senior leaders

Ability to build credibility and trust with key decision makers and be regarded as an expert advisor

Drive development of program management methods and client toolkits

Train, mentor and coach team members to build and apply skills in critical transformation capabilities and methods, and to operate at “top of license” and continue their career progression

Inspire and coach Organization Transformation team members and enterprise stakeholders to develop capability and engage positively in transformation activities

Actively build subject matter and domain expertise and model a learning organization for the team and stakeholders

Partners with assigned vendors to build effective relationships and collaborative team environments; manage vendor contract SLAs to achieve established goals

A track record of managing project teams to deliver business objectives, and milestones on time and on budget

Ability to identify synergies and interdependencies between portfolio projects and initiatives, and effectively mitigate risks and navigate through interdependencies

Maintain project assignments, monitor workloads and resources to meet portfolio objectives

Frequently reassess projects within the portfolio scope to ensure projects are carried out according to established plan and budget

Partner effectively across the P&ET vertical to deliver collaboratively to the business

Measure effectiveness of service offerings and address opportunities and feedback through targeted improvement initiatives

Provides direction and leadership, serving as a resource to staff on projects

Key Responsibilities include:

Drives enterprise-wide program management delivery, customizing and deploying program management methods and tools to deliver enterprise success; develops new processes, standards or operational plans aligned to enterprise priorities and Transformation service model

Conducts structured portfolio reviews for project performance within portfolio (schedule, budget, resource, service offering delivery)

Leads and manages a team to support the organization in the management of strategic initiatives & enterprise-wide priorities and deliver Transformation services; drives the identification of “people”, “process” and “systems” (not IT systems) capabilities required to move initiatives forward

Leads building and training on methods, and actively contributes to the service offering and service delivery strategy of the Office of Transformation

Maintains project assignments, monitors workloads, and resources to meet portfolio objectives

Drives and participates in team community building and engagement to establish an Office of Transformation culture of excellence with industry best practices

QualificationsBasic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

Must have a Bachelor’s Degree.

Must have at least 8 years of experience in managing complex, multi-year transformational initiatives with an emphasis on program management

Past experience and expertise in program management is required.

Past experience operating as the Senior Project Manager, Program Director or PMO Director on large scale multi-year and/or complex programs is required.

Preferred education experience and skills:

Proficiency in MS Project and/or Portfolio Management Systems.

Advanced degree preferred.

PMP Certification preferred.

Program Management & Design thinking experience preferred.

Past experience at a consulting firm preferred.

Healthcare experience preferred.

Demonstrated ability to problem frame

Demonstrated ability to see and mitigate risks preemptively

Strategic agility and ability to navigate through and work with different leadership styles

Strong organizational skills to effectively manage multiple projects from inception to completion, adhering to deadlines, within budget, quality and desired outcomes/metrics

Demonstrated skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with executives and other key stakeholders

Superior project management, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills

Anticipates needs, responds quickly, provides guidance and support, monitors and follows up as required
