About Margaret

Margaret was born in Ireland and moved to the US in the 1960s. She raised a family of four and currently resides in a cute little house in the Highland Park Neighborhood of St. Paul. Margaret loves to garden, go for walks, and talk about growing up on a farm in Ireland. One of Margaret’s children has moved in with her and provides her with companionship during most of the day. However, every weekday from 9 am to 2 pm we are looking for someone to be a companion for Margaret.

Margaret suffers from Alzheimer’s. She currently can do simple tasks such as wash dishes or weed her garden. However, she often forgets or gets confused about topics such as who her children are, how to call her grandchildren, or how to do the laundry.

Your responsibilities

Your primary responsibility will be to provide daytime companionships to Margaret. This means finding working to build a friendship with her, finding common interests, engaging in conversations, and helping her make the most of life.

For example, you might take her to visit her sister who is in a home 2 miles away. Other activities might include chatting with her about her childhood, going through photo albums to help her remember her loved ones, taking her for walks, knitting, or gardening.

You will also be responsible to know her whereabouts at all times and ensure that she is safe – for example, make sure she doesn’t turn on a clothes iron or stay out in the sun too long.

You may also be asked to keep her house tidy, launder her linens, go grocery shopping, perform light snow removal in the winter months, and prepare her lunch.
