The Aerospace Corporation Space Systems Group (SSG) serves as the technical and programmatic advisor to the United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) for acquiring, developing and fielding capabilities for the United States Space Command and joint warfighter, as well as to maintain America's comprehensive military advantage in space.As a Project Engineer/Senior Project Engineer in the Integration and Modeling, Simulation & Analysis Department within the Integrated Missile Warning Missile Tracking Missile Defense Subdivision of the Space Based Sensing Division, you will provide system and system of systems integration support to SSC Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) programs in all phases of the acquisition life cycle and their integration with other Department of Defense programs.This position is available as a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer.Some telecommuting is possible depending on customer needs.What You'll Be Doing
- Provide the Government with system integration expertise for the Next Generation OPIR System and the MEO Missile Warning and Tracking System, both individually and as an integrated system of systems with themselves and other DoD systems.
- Develop, in collaboration with the Government, system and system of systems integration strategies and detailed planning for operationally realistic system functional and performance testing for the ground, space, and combined ground-space capabilities.
- Provide ground development technical support for integrating, testing, and transitioning the space assets to the FORGE ground system.
- Provide independent assessments of and effective mitigation strategies for system and system of systems integration technical risks.
- Define critical system and system of systems integration decision points and milestones / events to ensure the successful transitioning of system and system of systems capabilities from development to operations.
- Provide integration requirements for digital engineering models and simulations at the system and system of systems levels.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, physical science, mathematics, or related technical degree from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 8 years of related professional engineering/scientific experience with at least 5 years of current space systems integration experience with national security space systems
- Experience and understanding of Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Missile Warning (MW), Missile Tracking (MT), Missile Defense (MD) mission areas
- Familiarity with Digital Engineering concepts and Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) tools
- Collaboration skills to build effective relationships with Government customers and other mission partners
- Demonstrated ability to work in a highly dynamic program office environment with a mix of Government, FFRDC and SETA personnel
- This position requires a current Top Secret/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US Government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
- Ability to travel within and to/from California and Colorado
- All the above requirements plus the following:
- Total of 12 years of related professional engineering/scientific experience with at least a total of 8 years of current space systems integration experience with national security space systems
- Significant experience and understanding of Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Missile Warning (MW), Missile Tracking (MT), Missile Defense (MD) mission areas
- Advanced degree in engineering, computer science, physical science, mathematics, or related technical degree from an accredited institution
- Experience in the successful integration of ground and space segments
- Experience in the successful integration of a space system of systems
- MBSE model development
- Experience working on Space Systems Command (SSC) or National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) space systems
