Job Description The Vehicle System Division (VSD) sits at the center of the ideas and data behind current and future systems supplying innovative research and development; technical evaluations during the acquisition process; conceptual and detailed design; assembly, integration, and test; and operational support. Comprised primarily of highly-trained mechanical and aerospace engineers, VSD provides national expertise in the areas of vehicle engineering; guidance, navigation, and controls; robotics; electro-mechanical devices; embedded systems; fluid mechanics; propulsion; thermal control; orbital mechanics; mechanisms; structures; structural dynamics; and dynamic environments. The Guidance and Control Subdivision, consisting of four Departments and 130+ people, is looking for a senior level technical leader to fill a strategic business development position. The selected candidate will participate in the organization's outreach, strategic planning, and future business development. In this position, you will work closely with subdivision colleagues to assess subdivision capabilities while gauging the most pressing problems of Program Offices and off-ceiling customers and coordinating solutions working in concert with partner ETG organizations. The ideal candidate will have sufficient experience to evaluate the aspirational needs of government and commercial customers, initiate activities to address those needs, and position the subdivision for long term off-ceiling growth. This position will provide cross-program visibility within the corporation and exposure to external partners and clients outside of Aerospace. This is a full-time position based in El Segundo, CA and can support telework multiple days per week, as business needs allow. What You'll Be Doing
- Benchmarking GCS services with respect to state-of-art technologies and first-in-class capabilities
- Understanding the role of an FFRDC and the business of Aerospace
- Identifying underutilized tools and unused software for technology refresh and modernization
- Innovating by combining current and new technologies to find improved solutions
- Exploring new ideas and seeking the most optimal ways to serve the corporation and our customers
- Prototyping technical solutions that will attract off-ceiling customers
- Briefing senior management on findings and recommendations
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or equivalent is required
- Typically, 12 years of applicable professional or educational experience is required
- Strong technical skills and experience with technology and capability development
- Conversant in digital engineering and transformation
- Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to work across organizations
- Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to mobilize personnel and influence decision makers
- This position requires the ability to have and maintain a current and active TS/SSBI/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
