The Department of State Hospitals-Atascadero is a secure public sector hospital providing inpatient forensic services for mentally ill adult males who are court committed throughout the State of California.

The Food Service Technician I is to serve or assist with the preparation of foods and beverages; to clean and maintain food service equipment, utensils, and work areas; as required, to instruct and work with helpers from the resident population; may instruct, lead, or supervise inmates, wards, or resident workers; and do other related work. Serve food cafeteria-style in patient dining rooms. Maintain order, cleanliness, and sanitation. Adhere to requirements for infection control and food safety /Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP). Adhere to requirements for safety, security, emergency response, and a non-hostile work environment.

Additional Information: This position is a temporary position and is not a permanent civil service appointment. Emergency hires shall not exceed 60 working days in a 12-month period per CCR301-304 and GC 19888.1. No retirement, health, dental, vision, sick leave or vacation leave benefits are provided. Additionally, no paid holidays off are provided.

Salary range shown is the minimum and maximum for a full-time appointment. Salaries for part-time and/or intermittent appointments may vary.

Exam Information: You do not need to take the exam for this temporary 60-day position. However, all candidates are encouraged to take the current exam for the Food Service Technician I to establish eligibility in order to apply for a Civil Service appointment. There are permanent, full time Food Service Technician I positions available that include the state benefit package.
