Assists a licensed Speech Pathologist by implementing, as appropriate for scope of practice, treatment programs to inpatient/outpatient members having specific communicative disorders, excluding complicated neurologically based disorders, craniofacial & laryngeal & oropharyngeal disorders. Performs job duties under close supervision of licensed Speech Pathologist(s).Essential Functions:
Upholds KP's Policies & Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities & applicable state, federal & local laws
Implements documented treatment plans or protocols developed by a supervising Speech Pathologist
Provides individualized treatment to adults & children w/ specific communication disorders under the supervision of a Speech Pathologist
Documents patient progress toward meeting established objectives & reports the information to a supervising Speech Pathologist
Assists the Speech Pathologist during assessments, including, but not limited to, assisting w/ formal documentation, preparing materials & performing clerical duties for a supervising Speech Pathologist
Complies w/ JCAHO, federal, state, local & health plan regulations
Observes all regional, medical center & department policies & procedure
Maintains privacy & confidentiality of medical information
Observes universal precautions & all infection control safety procedures
Maintains standards of professional behavior established to enhance quality of service
Uses appropriate titles & greeting for patients, families, physicians & staff
Treats all patients in accordance w/ Patient's Bill of Rights
Attends required in-services
Communicates clearly, effectively & appropriately at all times
Written & verbal communication must be clear, concise, legible, timely, accurate, complete & appropriate at all times
Maintains a courteous, professional relationship w/ patients, families, other members of the department & health care team
Maintains equipment, supplies & work area in accordance w/ department guidelines
Follows dept policies related to equipment & maintenance
Assists in maintaining clean & safe work areas
Demonstrates an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, chronological maturation process in delivery of services to patients of the age group served - neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult or geriatric
Documents clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive & accurate manner following dept policies & procedures
Demonstrates effective teaching techniques when instructing patients and/or family members
Performs other related duties, as assigned
Pay Grade: 26Basic Qualifications:
One (1) to three (3) years clinical experience as a Speech Pathologist Assistant preferred
Associate of Arts or Sciences degree from an accredited Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant program or completion of a Bachelor's degree program in Speech-Language pathology or communication disorders
Basic Cardiac Life Support
Must be registered & approved by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant
Ability to speak & write English for patient care purposes
Computer literacy preferred
