We are looking for a driven Product Development Engineers that’s also a Car, Truck and Motorcycle enthusiasts. We have an enthusiastic and driven company that is built on passion, and we are looking to continue that passion by building out a world class Engineering team. An ideal candidate will be a gearhead who enjoys the passion of vehicles/motorcycles on the weekends and uses that passion to drive hands-on projects, bringing new products to market. As a Product Development Engineer you will be an essential part of our Product Development team, bringing your years of experience and passion to deliver product that will change the market!

Title: Product Development Engineer

Location: San Dimas, CA

Compensation: $70k - $110K, Plus Bonus

Overall Responsibilities:As our Product Development Engineer you will be responsible for all engineering and product development duties. Product Development Engineers bring new products to market, tying engineering with direct involvement from manufacturing, purchasing, sales, and marketing. As well, we’ll be developing processes and procedures to continually improve current products to next generation products.

Daily Activities
  • Design components and systems for the aftermarket using Solidworks, to achieve maximum performance for the enthusiast. (e.g., exhaust, ignition, headers, electronics, etc.) You’ll also be encouraged to think of new products for the market, that interest Customers.
  • Generate working CAD models and drawings of components and assemblies to ASME Y14.5.
  • Manage your projects from conception through production by researching, planning, and designing automotive performance products and systems.
  • Write technical specifications and engineering documents; develop bills of materials, product installation manuals and owner’s manuals.
  • Work cross-functionally with purchasing, quality control, manufacturing, and customer service staff, as well outside vendors, through all phases of product development.
  • Develop and perform test procedures for product in development. This may include some degree of designing and fabricating the test equipment where it’s not commercially available.
  • Research OEM, competitive products, and patents - and make recommendations for design strategies.
  • Perform product validation, analyze test data, summarize findings, and write the related engineering reports.
  • Scan product or vehicles in 3D to use when designing new product.
  • Propose optimal prototyping methods and tradeoffs such as make vs buy vs 3D print.

You have/are…
  • a BS in Mechanical or automotive engineering or have equivalent work experience.
  • two to 10 years work experience. Automotive aftermarket or enthusiast segment preferred.
  • detail oriented.
  • experience with common Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook.
  • CAD experience. Solidworks preferred.
  • an understanding of manufacturing methods, post processing and material science.
  • proficient at working on cars and have the ability to successfully disassemble/reassemble them.
  • goal-oriented and are able to focus efforts on achieving high-quality results.
  • an effective communicator and are passionate about Teamwork. A good deal of your work will be collaborating with other disciplines and projects to achieve the best overall product.
  • work with integrity, honesty and respect… doing the right thing even when no one else is looking. Your actions work to build relationships and trust within the teams, to customers and to the broader aftermarket community.
  • self-motivated and aim to solve issues before they turn in to problems.
  • an aptitude to learn new things.

Preferred but not mandatory
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience working for a start-up/small company’s engineering department.
  • Specialty and experience in one or more areas such as suspension systems, intakes, exhaust, heat exchangers, ignition, etc.

The work environment
  • Is a combination of office and shop work.
  • Requires the ability to work at a desk for extended periods sitting/standing.
  • Requires installing/fitting the products you designed to vehicles, then reassembling the vehicle after the fit-up. This may be in the shop or in the field.
  • Requires field-testing products.
  • Requires repetitive physical and/or mental activities including bending, pushing, pulling, and movement in small spaces.
  • Requires ability to lift 35 lbs.
  • Requires the ability to visit vendors, trade shows, events travel to other PerTronix Group facilities, and participate in product test trips.
