This position is located Fort Greely, Alaska Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports the operation of the GMD Communication Network.
  • Monitors classified local area networks and unclassified wide area networks using SolarWinds, HP OpenView and Network Node Manager (NNMi) toolsets.
  • Interfaces with Defense Information Security Agency to report new circuit outages and records information on existing issues.
  • Maintains trouble tickets and reports status to Global IMD NetOps Integration Center and GMD Element Coordination and Information Center personnel.
  • Monitors status of GCN Communication Node Equipment, identifies hardware/software anomalies, documents issues and reports findings to responsible site GCN maintainers.
  • Performs network configuration actions and port verification procedures on routers and switches using Cisco IOS commands.
  • Supports scheduled GCN asset transitions, test and/or maintenance activities, as required.
  • Adheres to applicable procedures, policies, and directives.
  • Effectively responds to work schedule changes and recall activities as needed to support mission requirements.
  • Maintains smooth operation of networks.
  • Maintains technical expertise in areas of networks & computer hardware and software interconnection & interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
  • May propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings.
  • Prepares or ensures that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions. Provides regular monitoring and network analysis
Must be able to accommodate and support a 24 hour per day/7 day per week/365 day per year work scheduleBasic Qualifications:This requisition may be filled either at a (GCN) GMD Communications Network Technician 2 or a Technician 3 level.
  • (GCN) GMD Communications Network Technician 2: High School diploma or 2 years additional education and/or related experience in lieu of Diploma
  • (GCN) GMD Communications Network Technician 3: High School diploma or 4 years additional education and/or related experience in lieu of Diploma
  • Holds an IAT Certification Level II, Security + certification or higher IAW DoD 8570.
  • The ability to obtain a DoD secret clearance eligible to obtain an DoD Top Secret clearance.
  • Must be able to accommodate and support a 24 hour per day/7 day per week/365 day per year work schedule.
  • Effectively communicate with a variety of military and government customers.
  • Able to work effectively in small teams.
  • Able to read, understand, and execute detailed technical documentation such as checklists and operational procedures.
  • Must display a high level of initiative, work well with others, and must be able to take ownership of problems and pro-actively work them to resolution.
  • Travel: Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Some computer related experience (e.g.: UNIX, MS Office, databases, software applications and hardware);
  • Preference given to candidates with experience using SolarWinds and configuring Cisco routers/switches.
  • STEM Degree

Salary Range: $50,000 USD - $83,400 USD

Salary Range 2: $59,400 USD - $99,000 USD Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
