Cake Decorator / Pastry Chef

Cake Decorator & Pastry Chef Position:

Sugar & Salt RVA, a busy downtown bakery serving boutique desserts and custom cake designs, is seeking a creative artist to join our team!

Qualifications:

Candidates will need to be proficient in the pastry world with an emphasis in all aspects of cake design including, but not limited to:

Scaling ingredients

Baking

Assembly (including):

o Stacking Cakes

o Assembling and stacking multiple tiered cakes

o Crumb Coating

o Detailed Frosting Techniques

Fondant Work (including):

o Sculpting of 3D characters

o Covering cakes with fondant

o 2D fondant designs

Free-Hand Piping

Color Matching Icing / Fondant

Tempering Chocolate

Ability to Replicate Cake Designs

Produce Detailed Cake Sketches

Responsibilities:

As a lead cake decorator, our ideal candidate will be able to utilize their decorating abilities to create custom designs for clients using skills to replicate specific designs and create unique designs without replication. The candidate will facilitate the following responsibilities within the bakery:

Maintain a Clean Work Environment

Ensure Proper Sanitization of Equipment

Understand Proper Food Handling / Preparation Guidelines

Provide Quality Customer Service

Ability to be Cross Trained on Multiple Aspects of Bakery Operations

Ability to Lift 25-50 Pound Bags

The candidate must be available to work Tuesday through Saturday with opportunities for overtime and additional hours on Monday. The candidate must have reliable transportation to the Jackson Ward area located in downtown Richmond, Virginia.

The minimum starting pay is $15/hour, scaling up with experience.
