The Mountain Center (TMC) has an opening for our Native American Emergence Program. This position is on average 32 hours a week, and year round employment. TMC is a nationally recognized and accredited 501(C)3 educational and therapeutic organization that, since 1979, has been dedicated to promoting personal discovery and social change among youth, families and groups through the use of creative learning experiences in wilderness, community and cultural environments. We provide unique opportunities for people to transform their lives through remarkable experiences and adventures.
The Emergence Program was created in 1993 to reclaim experiential education as a tool for developing self-confidence and leadership skills among Native people and for rebuilding the internal cohesion of Native communities. It takes its name in honor of the many Native and Pueblo communities’ creation storiesstories about the way their people came into the world.
Job Responsibilities
Facilitate group experiences in a safe and constructive ways
Responsible for prescriptively designing programs utilizing experiential and adventure education.
Work with agency partners building goals and objectives for programs
Oversee evaluation and administrative duties for programs
Work in a team setting with co-staff and supervisors to provide the best experience for our participants
Attend staff meetings and trainings
Lead critical activities such as ropes course events (after training)
Maintain current wilderness first aid and CPR certification
Manage risk/exposure on programs
Minimum Qualifications
High school degree, equivalent or higher
Experience in working in group settings and or experience with therapeutic programming and experiential education
Experience working with Native youth and adults
Excellent time management skills as well as meeting deadlines and communication written, oral, electronically
Wilderness First Aid and CPR, if not current with in the first 6 months of employment
Pass a CYFD and other criminal background check
Clear driving record and valid driver’s license with no restrictions
Familiarity with the social, cultural and economic make-up of New Mexico or equivalent service area and the ability and willingness to work with diverse populations.
The position provides 32 hours of work per week/weekends; hourly range is $16-$18
