Job Description SummaryThe Moudling Technician will mould wind turbine shells by preparing mould surface, lay the layers of fiber glass and additional materials such as balsa wood, lightning protection and bushings, prepare to infuse the blade and complete moulding process.Job DescriptionMINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducationHigh School Diploma or GED required

External ExperiencePrevious manufacturing experience preferred.

Previous composite materials experience preferred

Knowledge and SkillsMust have strong communication skills.

Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time.

Requires usage of respirator.

Physical demands outlined in Job Analysis.

Basic math skills

Ability to operate basic hand tools

Ability to operate heavy machinery

Computer literacy/Ipads

Use of hands for scraping and intricate detailing

Ability to lift of carry objects or materials up to 40 lbs

RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIESQualitative/QuantitativeDay to day activitiesStretching at beginning of shift lead by Supervisor. Stretching throughout the day as needed.

Gather supplies needed for the day, including picking up glass cart. Lay out the cut glass from cart along the catwalk according to labels.

Prep the mould for gel coat

Tape in designated areas

Wax mould

Apply painters’ bag alongside top edges of the mould.

Place double sided tape on vortex strips and apply to marked area in mould.

Prepare pots with tacky tape, bags, hose, etc. for gel coat.

After completion of gel coat, lay down glass according to work instructions both manually, and utilizing the glass wagon. Smooth out all wrinkles, continually trim edges of glass.

Utilize blade clamps to assist lying down and holding glass.

Sew glass reinforcements together along the edge of the mould.

Assemble root plate with bushings and pultrusions.

Lay out balsa/foam on top of glass according to labels and working instructions and staple together using a staple gun.

Prepare for lifting with crane certified employees operating the crane.

Install root plate according to work instructions

Apply adhesive flange (downwind only), spiral and peel ply according to work instructions.

Lay blue backing and netting according to labels and work instructions. Use a cutter and inlets to connect all profiles.

Apply inlet gates and diamond angle boxes.

Place bag over mould apply tacky tape around infusion elbows before being placed into inlet boxes. Adhere to mould using tacky tape.

Turn on vacuum pressure transmitters.

Before the infusion process, verify all air openings are closed. Check that all tacky tape is secure and that no air holes are present. Then, begin the infusion process.
