DescriptionCome join our team as an Associate Investigator! This position is part of a multi-crop research effort and will be involved in various activities in support of all programs at the center. The Associate Investigator will provide support to the sorghum breeding program, corn and lodging testing, assisting as needed with all nursery operations and hybrid evaluation activities.Responsibilities:How will you help us grow? It matters to us, and it matters to you!

Assisting on all nursery, screening and testing operations, including seed

preparation, field operations, sampling, note taking, pollinations, hand harvest, threshing; occasional machinery operation and maintenance, included but not limited to tractors, planters, sprayers and combines.

Provide support to Research Associates to collect high-quality phenotypic notes, such as plant height, flowering date, plant counts, etc., in a time efficient manner.

Work closely with temporary employees and help in giving guidance and training them to accomplish goals, ensuring that workplace health and safety guidelines are followed.

Management of seed inventory and preparation of off-season nurseries, so that they are shipped and planted as Planned on time.

May be requested to assist in conducting experiments at other Research sites, laboratory areas, or groups.

May be requested to maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments at work location.

Determine how to conduct experiments to meet researchers needs within allotted time constraints.

Identify appropriate uses of company resources when conducting experiments.

Make daily decisions associated with conducting experiments.

Decide priority of work activities.

QualificationsRequirements:What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table?

Bachelor's degree, (agricultural degree) with 2 – 4 years experience in related field or equivalent level of relevant education and experience.

Aptitude and willingness to work outdoors in hot often dusty environment is essential.

May be required to do physical lifting and work in varying ergonomic environments.

Interpersonal and communication skills are important.

Familiar with farm equipment maintenance and operation; and crop production practices.

Familiar with standard computer programs like Excel, Word etc. and use of handheld mobile devices is desirable but not limited.

Spanish as second language is preferable,

Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as math and computer skills.

Broad theoretical grounding and understanding in specialized or technical areas (i.e. chemistry, biology, engineering)
