Quality Assurance (QA) Technician Internship - Torrance, CaPosition Summary: This position is responsible for measuring and recording quality control tasks in the Receiving and Production areas. Receives, inspects and samples all incoming raw materials for specification requirements. Monitors CCPs and specification compliance. Establish Receiving and production floor presence for continuous GMP enforcement and cross contamination prevention. Report all deviations immediately to supervisor.Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Receiving:

Report deviations from GMP, SQF, and specification requirements immediately to supervisor.

Perform truck inspections for all incoming raw materials trucks and document findings daily

Perform appropriate inspection for each raw material according to each category and SOP

Collect samples from each received raw material for testing and evaluation

Collect samples from incoming packaging materials

Assist in making the decision on whether to accept or reject the incoming raw material

Verify Received Supplier Lot Numbers against Lot Numbers on the Certificate of Analysis for accuracy

Perform data entries of daily raw materials receiving in database system

Verify the kosher requirement for each raw material received against the Ingredient Approved List to be in compliance with the Rabbinical Authority

Calibrate thermometers and documents it daily

Record the temperature of both the Incoming Refer and the raw material assuring it is within specification

Monitor the Inventory of the Fresh Produce in coolers for freshness and quality daily and verify that FIFO is followed by warehouse

Keep and maintain QC raw material retainers in good condition

Place materials on hold when needed according to the hold procedure

Report to work as scheduled; be on time from lunch, breaks, and at the beginning of the shift

Follow the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and enforce them with all employees, as well as the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Safety purposes.

Production:

Report deviations from SQF, CCP, GMP and specification requirements immediately to supervisor.

Inspect and verify raw material quality and specification adherence coming into production.

Monitor and record line CCPs and quality checks.

Record roasting, blending and freezing temperatures.

Perform weight check verification.

Verify and/or perform metal detection testing.

Inspect metal detector and optical sorter rejection bins.

Perform blend ratio tests

Perform seasoning verification calculations

Verify cut size

Verify lot codes

Checks seal integrity of finished products

Monitor proper palletization and timely removal of finished goods to storage areas.

Perform chlorine wash concentration tests

Collect microbiological swabs

Collect samples for microbiological tests.

Report to work as scheduled; be on time from lunch, breaks, and at the beginning of the shift

Follow the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and enforce them with all employees, as well as the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Safety purposes.

Laboratory:

Report all deviations from SQF, GLP, and product specifications immediately to supervisor.

Demonstrate knowledge of good laboratory practices

Calibrate and maintain logs of all lab equipment up to date

Calibrate daily thermometers for production

Update analytical and microbiological log daily with sample receipt and test results.

Perform chemical, physical, microbiological, and sensory tests following lab procedures according to approved AOAC methods.

pH

Acidity

Salt analysis

Viscosity

% BRIX

Moisture

Water activity

Colorimetry

Drain weight

Indicator and pathogen micro testing of finished product, raw material and environmental samples

Perform allergen testing

Perform Histamine testing

Record temperatures of lab incubators and refrigerators daily

Prepare of laboratory solutions and media

Operation of autoclave

Disposal of laboratory waste

Monitor lab supplies making sure no expired chemicals and reagents are used

Report to work as scheduled; be on time from lunch, breaks, and at the beginning of the shift

Follow the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and enforce them with all employees, as well as the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Safety purposes.

Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

1-2 years' in Quality Control in a relevant food manufacturing facility or

BS in Food Science.

Familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, E-mail, internet etc.) computer-based programs.

Must have the ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English. Bilingual in Spanish a plus.

Demonstrate full knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices policies and procedures

Able to perform mathematical calculations.

Able to follow written or verbal instructions

Demonstrate good communication skills

1-2 years' experience in a related analytical lab for food manufacturing plants

Strong skills in mathematics, calculations and dilutions

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, E-mail, internet etc.) computer-based programs.

Must have the ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English. Bilingual in Spanish a plus.

HACCP certified a plus

Demonstrate full knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices policies and procedures.

Full knowledge of laboratory safe practices for handling equipment, chemicals and glassware

Must utilize time in an efficient manner and be able to work with minimal supervision.

Detail oriented.

Strong organizing skills and able to meet deadlines.

Must be able to prioritize and handle multiple projects at the same time.

Be able to work independently or in a team environment.

Able to work flexible hours and weekends.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged Standing/Walking - 90%

Climbing, Crawling, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting (50 lbs.) - 5%

Finger-Hand Manipulation (e.g. 10-key, typing) - 5%

Able to distinguish colors.

Able to withstand strong odors from the foods being processed.

Able to work in a high-paced, hot and cold environment for short periods of time.
