  • A Senior Software Engineer is responsible for designing and developing complex requirements to accomplish business goals. Key responsibilities of the role include ensuring that software is developed to meet functional, non-functional, and compliance requirements. This role ensures solutions are well designed with maintainability/ease of integration and testing built-in from the outset. They possess proficiency in development and testing practices common to the industry, and have extensive experience of using design and architectural patterns. A Senior Software Engineer is an individual contributor to a team.

Responsibilities:
  • Client is seeking a Senior Level Mainframe Developer that will lead, design and develop (write code) application projects for an enterprise-wide payments, receipts, treasury and trade processing application. Must be able to understand very complex systems and utilize development patterns to develop key components in an environment which is highly scalable with continued peak performance. Must be self-driven, communicate well and work well on a team of other developers. Some projects may lead others or may be led depending upon project priorities and functionality. Must work with business to understand requirements and architecture leads to develop a strategic design. Ultimately responsible for delivery of project into production. Experience working in an Agile environment is desired.
  • Contributes to story refinement/defining requirements
  • Participates and guides team in estimating work necessary to realize a story/requirement through the delivery lifecycle
  • Performs spike/proof of concept as necessary to mitigate risk or implement new ideas
  • Codes solutions and unit tests to deliver a requirement/story per the defined acceptance criteria and compliance requirements
  • Utilizes multiple architectural components (across data, application, business) in design and development of client requirements
  • Assists team with resolving technical complexities involved in realizing story work
  • Designs/develops/modifies architecture components, application interfaces, and solution enablers while ensuring principal architecture integrity is maintained
  • Designs/develops/maintains automated test suites (integration, regression, performance).
  • Sets up and develops a continuous integration/continuous delivery pipeline
  • Automates manual release activities
  • Mentors other Software Engineers and coaches team on CI-CD practices and automating tool stack

Required Qualifications:
  • Design, develop, test and maintain mainframe applications.
  • 10+ years of experience in Information Technology
  • 7+ years of experience in Mainframe Application Development, Maintenance and Product Support projects
  • Development and/or support experience in one of more of the following: COBOL, DB2, CICS
  • Expertise in using mainframe tools such as XPEDITER, CHANGEMAN, SYNCSORT, DFSORT, File-Aid, File Manager, SPUFI, QMF and Jobtrac, CA-7, ESP, Endevor
  • Significant experience with batch and online processing
  • 3+ years of work experience in an Agile environment. Work history of participating in daily agile routines and estimation of stories with minimal direction
  • Practical experience with performance tuning
  • Expertise in complex SQL and query plans
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or relevant discipline
  • Independent worker with troubleshooting skills
  • Outstanding communication skills

Desired Skills:
  • Knowledge of financial services applications; presentation skills; client focused and able to build working relationships
  • 5+ years financial services industry experience
  • Experience with Payments, Receipts, Treasury and Trade processing
  • Experience with International information reporting
  • Experience with IBM and ISV product and vendor installation support tools
  • Knowledge of mainframe modernization strategies and solutions
