JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Custodian/Groundskeeper is responsible for insuring the church facilities are clean and maintained. This position has no direct supervisory responsibility.

This is a full time hourly position which reports directly to the Church Administrator and is accountable to the Building and Grounds Team and to the Session of the church.

Work schedule is set for 40 hours a week which includes six hours worked on Sunday in support of worship. The remaining hours of the work week are flexible and determined in cooperation with the supervisor (Church Administrator). Special opportunities such as weddings and funerals will be offered for additional compensation. Within reason, the Custodian/Groundskeeper may have to respond to emergency situations that occur outside of normal working hours.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Christian beliefs and personal character consistent with the values of the church.

Previous custodial experience is preferred.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Knowledge & experience using common tools, power tools and other devices in order to make repairs of small equipment used in the church.

Ability to work without close supervision and to identify opportunities to improve the cleanliness of the church facilities.

Flexibility with a variety of vendors, volunteers and staff.

CURRENT AREAS OF EMPHASIS FOR THIS POSITION:

Insure all areas of church facilities are clean before and after they have been used.

Provide custodial services for all work areas used by the staff.

Insure grounds around the church are maintained with an emphasis on safety and overall appearance of the church facilities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

1. Maintain and clean, as needed, all the facilities, including the sanctuary, gym, offices, Fireside Room, kitchen, storage areas, Hunter Building, and Krueger Hall: vacuum, dust, wash floors, empty trash and resupply materials as needed.

2. After services in the sanctuary; remove trash, refill pew envelopes, collect leftover bulletins and return outdoor signs to storage.

3. Clean all glass doors when needed.

4. Clean the bathrooms regularly and ensure soap, towels and toilet paper are resupplied.

5. Make sure facilities are sanitary with special attention to the bathrooms, drinking fountains and areas where food is prepared and served.

6. Work closely with staff and volunteers when planning special events including set up of tables and chairs, coffee preparation, decorations and cleanup.

7. Provide security for the church facilities by supervising vendors doing work in the church, observing visitors during events and performing security checks of the facilities.

8. Provide on call coverage for security alarm issues.

9. Mow, trim and edge the lawn.

10. Ensure irrigation & sprinkler systems for the lawns and flowers are in good operating condition.

11. Ensure sidewalks, steps and the dumpster area are maintained and clean at all times.

12. Provide snow removal from sidewalks and entryways.

13. Provide for grading and repairs of the gravel parking lot.

14. Support the Building and Grounds Ministry Team, volunteers and Church Administrator as needed.

EVALUATION:

Performance reviews will be conducted after the first 90 days and annually thereafter by the Church Administrator and reviewed by the Personnel Team. On at least an annual basis, the Personnel Team will review the adequacy of compensation and the terms of employment
