The e-Propulsion business unit is seeking a Design Engineering Manager to work in our Carpinteria, CA office. In this position, you will assume ownership of mechanical engineering in support of research and development relating to contactor products. These components are designed for automotive applications and must meet customer requirements for performance, quality, and cost. You will receive assignments in the form of objectives/goals and must provide direction to employees to meet the outlined goals; direct employees according to established policies and will administer company policies that directly affect subordinate employees.-General Responsibilities

Leverages engineering fundamentals and org to make sound decisions on complex technical issues

Detailed understanding of market and implications for business

Proactively challenge and drives the organization to deliver improved quality and performance related to engineering design

Product Strategy participant and driver

Maintain product documentation (drawings and specifications)

Direct interaction with customers to solicit product specifications requirements, schedule expectations and budget

Corrosion research and welding characterization & has a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, mechanics, fluid, thermo and heat transfer

Advanced knowledge of basic electrical circuits, microelectronic assembly, statistical methods, process control fundamentals and product test processes

Familiarity with manufacturing methods welding, brazing, soldering, adhesive bonding, machining, stamping, molding and forming. Basic knowledge of core manufacturing processes

Experience / Qualifications

A university degree and 4-6 years of experience (i.e. Bachelors degree) or a graduate degree and 2-4 years of experience (i.e. Masters degree) or a higher level degree and 0-2 years of experience (i.e. Doctorate degree)

Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands

Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation

Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results

Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity

-Supporting & secondary responsibilities:You will frequently interact with outside customers and functional peer groups at management levels. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others, conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects/schedules, etc. Responsibilities include understanding customer requirements and expectations, and developing/driving actions and schedules needed to support those program expectations. This will require working with cross-functional teams including process engineering, marketing, the PMT and the Make site operations team.Management /Organization Skills:You will supervise a team of 6+ engineers and technicians and the size of the team is expected to grow over time. Strong interpersonal skills are needed to work effectively with superiors, subordinates, suppliers, and customers. A strong desire to individually develop their direct reports, as well as cultivate the strength of the team is a must. The Automotive industry’s EV initiatives are fast moving; an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to manage high ambiguity with agility and creativity will be important to be successful in this role. Influencing skills are important as you will must leverage others in the organization to complete their goals.Opportunities for Improvements:You should have a forward-looking perspective and should be constantly seeking to learn from current activities to drive improvements for the future. The ability to be creative and innovative will assist in developing unique, differentiated solutions to complex problems.Success in this position requires good organizational savvy and good team-building and influencing skills; both in working with internal teams and external teams. Often times this position may require keen negotiating with internal and external teams to develop a win-win situation for the business and customers. You will also need to exercise good judgment: he/she should understand their own level of decision-making and also understand when it is important to advise/involvement management of difficult complex and high-risk situations.Must Have:

BS/MS Engineering or Physics Degree, at least 5 years prior work experience.

People-first leadership style with the ability to effectively coach, mentor, and provide feedback to reports.

Thorough understanding of engineering fundamentals.

Strong interpersonal communication skills and collaborative work style.

Concept to production product development experience.

Ability to thrive in a global team based work environment

Nice to Have:

Experience designing molded and/or stamped parts

Understanding electrical circuit theory

Understanding of process control fundamentals and product test processes
