The Engineering Geophysics team within the Subsurface Science & Technology Group, a new team created this year, is seeking a highly qualified geoscientist to join us in our research in earth and environmental science, energy development, and national security. In particular, we are seeking candidates who can contribute to studies in geothermal energy, environmental remediation monitoring, and underground nuclear detonation detection. This position is anticipated to require leadership through interaction and coordination with large teams of multidisciplinary scientists and project sponsors as well as leadership and management of small teams. The Geoscientist will be required to participate in the development and promotion of the Engineering Geophysics team capabilities as well as the Geophysics strategy for the Earth Systems Science Division. Preferred candidates will have experience in both subsurface fluid transport and shock propagation. Furthermore, proven experience with the integration of laboratory/field and computational results is highly desired.

Develop and apply integrated geophysical and hydrological monitoring methods to characterize subsurface properties and processes (fluid flow) in close collaboration with specialists of other methods.

Propose, develop, and execute original ideas to solve science and engineering problems.

Design and coordinate projects as Principal Investigator (PI) or co-PI.

Support scope, schedule, and budget at project or major task level.

Publish research in leading peer-reviewed journals.

Present research efforts and technical work products at national or international forums.

Participate in business development opportunities.

Train and mentor junior level staff.

Minimum Qualifications

BS/BA with 7 years of experience

MS/MA with 5 years of experience

PhD with 3 year of experience

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Geophysics, Geological Sciences, or Civil/Environmental Engineering with at least 5 years of related experience, post-doctoral studies included.

Demonstrated expertise in design and execution of multi-disciplinary field experiments, integration of field and laboratory measurements with computational models, and complex subsurface processes.

Expertise with programming/scripting as well as standard office software.

Strong verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated record of publications in peer review journals and/or customer interactions.
