Activity Director/Transportation Director

Location: Good Samaritan Society Lyons Address: 1311 S Douglas Ave, Lyons, KS 67554-3799 USA Employment Type: Full-Time Shift: 8 Hours - Day ShiftsJob ResponsibilitiesThis position develops activity programming for residents and assures activities are led in a safe and effective manner by staff.Assesses residents’ needs and develops plans for programming that meets identified needs. Leads or assists with conducting programming. Evaluates effectiveness of programming. Assures community involvement with center/campus and works with volunteers. Completes all documentation within established timelines. Receives and shares information. Observes and reports residents’ conditions to appropriate staff. Uses the EMR accurately. Keeps activity area free of hazards. Keeps potentially harmful substances in locked storage and discards properly. Follows appropriate and adequate safety measures while on outings. Assures residents are supervised at all times while in planned groups/outings, etc.Demonstrates/encourages opportunities for carrying out the mission. Formulates and works within annual budget. Acquires resources and means that promote a quality work environment. Assists and participates in the QA/CQI process ensuring quality performance, conformance with regulations, standards and laws, and customer satisfaction. Accepts accountability for activities under direct control; exercises sound judgment and decision-making; promotes cooperative working relationships within and between departments. Keeps abreast of and implements new programs or practices. Schedules transportation to take resident to medical appointments, activities, and to the airport. Coordinates transportation for all outside appointments and activities. Is responsible for Risk Management, including safety and health, property / insurance, building security, emergency guidelines and federal regulations. Ensures location drivers have up to date licenses and favorable MVR. Maintains DOT compliance as required by state law. Documents all completed work and checks performed. Receives and shares information. Observes and reports residents' conditions to appropriate staff. Records and maintains records of meetings/ transactions. Ensures preventive maintenance on location vehicles is completed. Provides back-up transportation to deliver lab materials when Transportation Coordinator is unavailable. Drives location vehicle in a safe and courteous manner. Plans most efficient and effective route in advance. Ensures all seat belts are fastened prior to moving the vehicle. Follows all state and local safety rules. Follows written emergency proceduresQualificationsMust be eligible for certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or as an Activities Professional by a recognized accrediting body or ability to satisfactorily complete an accredited training program approved by the state in which the center/campus is located; training in communication with visually and hearing impaired individuals as well as aphasic individuals is preferred. Prior work experience in long term care is preferred; other pertinent experience considered.Must have a demonstrated knowledge of caring for people with special needs; ability and desire to be creative and ability to adapt programs and supplies to meet individual resident needs.On the job paid training to become Certified Nursing Assistant.The Good Samaritan Society offers an attractive, employee-approved benefits package for qualifying full-time and part-time employees.
