JOB SUMMARY

The Employee Health Nurse endeavors to promote health and safety to all employees by facilitating an Employee Health Program which includes disease detection, prevention, and treatment; following up employee illnesses and injuries; conducting employee health screenings; and, promoting a safe work environment. The nurse’s duties include educating employees about infection control; and the development of health system policies and procedures to insure rigorous employee health, safety, and infection control standards that meet JCAHO, OSHA, Public Health Department, and Center for Disease Control requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts new on-hire screenings to include health history and immunizations update.
  • Conducts annual screenings as directed by OSHA, CDC and other regulatory agencies to include annual Tuberculosis Screening.
  • Completes annual report to OSHA of occupational illnesses and injuries as required by statute.
  • Refers employees with identifiable limitations and/or health risks to appropriate resources.
  • Offers health educational materials.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources to ensure completion of all new employee health screenings.
  • Conducts surveillance and follow-up of employee exposures to communicable diseases.
  • Plans, implements and conducts annual Flu Vaccine Program.
  • Plans and implements other vaccine programs as directed by OSHA, CDC and other regulatory agencies, to include Tetanus and MMR.
  • Conducts TB screening for all new employees, all other employees, and volunteers and students according to the Hospital TB control plan. Conducts follow-up skin testing for all employee TB exposures.
  • Trends employee illnesses/injuries to identify safety and health issues.
  • Plans, implements and conducts annual TB and blood borne pathogen training to employees in required departments.
  • Provides education on an as needed basis regarding hand washing and isolation practices.
  • Strives to manage situations in a reduced risk manner. Functions within the RN scope of practice.
  • Demonstrates awareness of an adherence to legal requirements pertinent to employee health and safety.
  • Maintains employee health records.
  • Maintains summaries and written reports required for employee illness/injury reporting.
  • Participates as a member of the Infection Control Committee, Environmental Safety and on hospital-wide committees at the request of executive level management.
  • Assists with the compilation of data and computer input.
  • Provides concise data and tracking of all blood borne exposures.
  • Conducts new employee orientation in Infection/Employee Health, as needed.
  • Coordinates Workers Compensation cases and provides related employee education on injuries and assures the proper referrals are made with Workers Compensation physician practice.
  • Assists with Infection Control as needed.
  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
  • Participate in continuing educational activities at the department, state, and national levels to promote personal growth and maintain a current knowledge base commensurate with latest research and scholarly knowledge.
  • Maintain compliance with national standards and regulating bodies such as JCAHO, CDC, OSHA, and FDA.
  • Assists and collaborates with stakeholders to write and review hospital policies.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Experience / License and Certifications

  • Current and unrestricted Wyoming Registered Nurse license.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Prefer national certification in Occupational Health Nursing.
  • BLS certification, required.

Department Specific Education / Experience / License and Certifications

Additional Skills

  • Three years of experience as a Registered Nurse preferred.
  • Experience in occupational health preferred.
  • Prefer at least one year of experience or additional course work or certification in infection control.
  • Must display a neat, clean, professional appearance.
  • Must understand importance of and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Exhibit an attitude, which promotes harmony and goodwill among patients, caregivers, and co-workers.
  • Must communicates clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must communicate in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to listens effectively to patient, caregivers, co-workers, and supervisor.
