Position Overview:

Novelis is seeking to add an experienced Maintenance Supervisor to our Richmond, VA facility. The purpose of this role is to ensure that preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance work is completed to safety, quality, and efficiency expectations. The position requires working in a manufacturing environment which can be hot and dusty, and requires climbing on or around equipment to supervise repairs. It will also require operating and/or riding in lifts and hoists to perform such work. The individual must handle multiple projects and priorities and be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet demanding and difficult emergency situations. The successful candidate will establish strong relationships with all organizational levels in order to build collaborative approaches toward maintenance management.

Responsibilities & Qualifications:

Responsibilities Include:

  • Daily supervision of the hourly, multi-skilled maintenance employees.

  • Handles all administrative duties associated with the hourly workforce - discipline, vacation approval, performance reviews, shift change approvals, scheduling overtime, etc.

  • Involved with writing and editing maintenance department procedures related to: safety, environmental, and equipment maintenance, and PM’s.

  • Trains maintenance employees to use maintenance management software for work order tracking.

  • Holds hourly maintenance technicians accountable for performing safe, effective work.

  • Procures parts and tools as needed to support the Maintenance effort.

  • Obtains formal quotations on large and small volume items as required.

  • Assist with the analysis of breakdowns to determine the proper requirements for parts and supplies that must be ordered.

  • Develops and maintains positive vendor relationships.

  • Keeps abreast of new and innovative products, which will help the maintenance department improve their level of customer service.

  • Performs Root Cause Analysis on equipment failures and HSE or quality upsets related to the maintenance organization

  • Assists in controlling the departmental spending to keep it within the specified budget.

  • Ensures compliance with collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications:

  • Five year’s experience leading a maintenance team in an industrial or heavy manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Excellent task prioritization and management skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical and electrical industrial maintenance.

  • Strong working knowledge of purchasing, PLC systems, hydraulics, pneumatics and overall machine design.

  • Able to interact with vendors, customers, contractors and employees at all levels of the organization
  • Able to make decisions “under fire”.

  • Proven negotiating, interpersonal and both written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Proficiency in personal computer skills, including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics.

  • Experience in the aluminum or steel industry is a plus.
