We support computationally enabled science by providing researchers access to computational building blocks (e.g., HPC, Machine Learning environments, Data Management Tools etc.). We also provide services, expertise and support to researchers to optimize their use of our capabilities (e.g., HPC Consulting, Cloud Deployment Support, etc.), all while fostering a culture of computing through interdisciplinary collaboration and access to computational resources.We are seeking a proven and experienced Cloud Engineer to develop solutions in Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and/or Amazon Web Service (AWS). In this role, you will leading all stages of the engineering process, from vision casting to prospective projects, supporting proposals, soliciting requirements, leading the architecture, design, and implementation of varied solutions to meet a broad range of science and engineering programs and initiatives.

You will provide technical leadership within a dynamic and growing team, developing strategies to leverage the comparative benefits of the different cloud providers to Program Managers, collaborating across numerous scientific and engineering domains. Developing secure and innovative solutions that delight the project sponsors.

Additional responsibilities include:

Building a collaborative community across PNNL, to share ideas, solutions, and opportunities around the cloud space

Sharing the latest technologies and features available across the cloud providers to varied audiences and understanding where these technologies will shine.

Amplifying your impact by developing team members around you.

Providing self-service and frictionless cloud delivery leveraging infrastructure as code (IaC) utilizing Puppet Enterprise, Ansible, Chef , Terraform Builds automated CI/CD deployment frameworks.

The hiring level will be determined based on the education, experience and skill set of the successful candidate based on the following:IT Engineer level 3:Selects and develops technical approaches on assignments with occasional oversight on complex problems. Principal investigator or co-PI on projects or tasks, while integrating capabilities of work team members. Supports scoping, scheduling, and budgeting at a project or major task level. Generates new ideas for proposals and business development opportunities while leading development of technical section of small to medium proposals. Serves as a role model for quality, safety, and security. Makes key contributions in setting technical direction. Builds effective project teams with membership across a group, S&E domain and/or directorate. Contributes to the local organization through mentorship of junior staff and taking on operational assignments.IT Engineer level 4:Selects and develops technical approaches to complex challenges. Principal investigator or co-PI on multiple or significantly complex, and/or high risk projects or tasks and/or involving multiple tasks, capabilities, and organizations. Develops, and realizes new significant project opportunities, leading the development of technical sections of large proposals. Takes lead in scope, schedule, and budget for projects or large tasks. Serves as a role model for quality, safety, and security. May contribute to directorate level operational improvement activities. Leading organizational teams that proactively identify and promote new capabilities within a division and S&E domain, and advance the directorate strategy. Mentoring staff and peers across directorate. Leading through operational assignments that benefit the group and directorate.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in a relevant field with 5 years of experience, Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or PhD with 1 year of experience. A minimum of 13 years of relevant work experience may be considered.Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 7 years of experience, Master's degree with 5 years of experience, or PhD with 3 years of experience. A minimum of 15 years of relevant work experience may be considered

5+ Years of experience in system in design/architecture of related technologies

3+ Years of experience with IaaS and PaaS design/architecture

Proven Experience deploying virtual infrastructure using Azure, AWS or GCP services

Proven experience with Python, or Java

Proven experience with container platforms (Kubernetes, Docker, etc. )

Experience with CI/CD via Atlassian/ Gitlab Experience working in a DevOps environment

Experience delivering projects via Agile methodologies

Extensive Azure Resource Manager, AWS Compute Optimizer, or GCP Cloud Deployment Manager

Demonstrated Python/Shell/Powershell experience deploying Infrastructure services as code (IaC)

Experience system administration on various OS’s (RHEL/Ubuntu/Windows)
