Providence is calling a Tele Sitter for Per Diem Day Shift to Providence Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, CA.

We are seeking a Tele Sitter who will provide continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients. First line of action is to verbally redirect the patient from engaging in at risk behaviors.

Summon the nursing staff is the patient requires assistance by communication device or STAT Alert Alarm (if appropriate).

Knowledgeable and supportive of patient and institutional confidentiality and related hospital policies.

In this position you will :

Demonstrate understanding and proficiency of the use of the Video Monitoring (VM) software

Maintain visual observation at all times

Verbally redirect patient over digital 2-way audio device that is in patient room

Immediately summon the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance

Participate in hand-off of pertinent information / behavior about assigned patients when arriving on unit and upon completion of shift assignment

Arrange meal break times with nurse and informs nurse prior to leaving monitoring station for any reason so that relief may be provided to ensure constant patient observation

Provide patient with explanations as necessary, but does not counsel or provide opinions

Demonstrate behaviors in line with Service Excellence

Seek help or advice as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others

Participate in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues

Assure patient environment safety

Seek assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and report findings to Charge Nurse

Demonstrate safe work practices and attitudes, follow safety rules, work to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participate in organizational and department safety programs

Dedicated attention to observing patients with no outside distractions (no answering of phones unless calls to monitor station, etc.)

Stay connected with audio by never taking off the headset

Never leave monitor station unattended. If you need to step away, call for backup first

No food and drink in patient care areas

Maintain a clean and tidy workspace

No cellphone use in patient care areas

Maintain documentation binders

Qualifications :

Required qualifications for this position include :

A current Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS) from the American Heart Association for Health Care Providers or American Red Cross CPR / AED for the Professional Rescuer

Basic Microsoft windows experience

Accurately and efficiently complete assigned tasks

Ability to organize and prioritize work to complete assignments in a timely manner

Fluent ability to understand and communicate using basic medical terminology

Ability to establish and maintain a courteous and cooperative (service-oriented) working relationship with patients, families and co-workers

Capable of continuous monitoring of up to 12 Tele / Sitter patients on one screen at one time and remaining alert at all times while on duty

Ability to communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset

Engage use of Translator Services as needed to communicate with patients

Ability to communicate with hospital staff and respond quickly to patient behavioral changes

Ability to use discretion and courtesy when working with patients, visitors, and staff

Basic computer operation skills

Efficiency in multitasking

Ability to prioritize simultaneous situations
