Position Purpose :

Job Description Details :

Position Summary : The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for all patients within the department.

Supervises the care provided by unlicensed assistive personnel under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Ensures the safety of the patient.

Qualifications : Must have a current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan. Recent med surg experience preferred.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities :

Provides quality patient care by considering the age specific, development and cultural needs through competent clinical practice.

Demonstrates unit / area competencies and understanding of policies and procedures.

Identifies and assists in resolution of problems related to safety, sanitation and maintenance of the environment.

Practices effective communication in all interactions (patient, visitor, co-worker, etc.)

Promotes a positive work environment by demonstrating teamwork.

Performs all aspects of the Nursing Process :

Performs nursing assessments of the patient's physical, psychosocial and cognitive status considering age and development level.

Formulates and documents individualized plans of care developed with the patient, family and health care team members.

Implements patient care in a manner consistent with the age of the patient, the plan of care and the changing needs of the patient.

Documents patient care according to Hospital and Department standards.

Evaluates patient care needs, determines priorities and directs nursing care as required.

Supervises the care provided by unlicensed assistive personnel under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

Other Functions and Responsibilities

1) Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience and Certification / Licensure

1) Must have a current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan

2) Effective 01 / 01 / 2013 BSN required within 5 years of hire date for new RNs
