This position provides culturally sensitive community outreach, organization of community events to families in Santa Fe County. The focus of this outreach and community engagement is to support women early in their pregnancy and includes, but is not limited to the following: non-traditional, grassroots outreach to Santa Fe’s most underserved families, identification of families to participate in appropriate United Way programs, and connecting families with appropriate resources (with a focus on connecting women early in their pregnancy to prenatal care). The Outreach Specialist must participate in relevant program activities, such as training and supervision. Extensive local travel is required and all activities must be documented in electronic and other files.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

- Engage in successful outreach activities to families in neighborhoods throughout Santa Fe and Rio Arriba County, including door-to-door outreach, planning and executing play groups in neighborhood spaces (parks, community rooms, etc.), and developing positive, supportive, ongoing relationships with families contacted through outreach activities

- Provide support, education, referrals and assistance in the home and community setting to families within Santa Fe and Rio Arriba County, with an emphasis on providing these supports to expectant women

- Attend all required staff meetings and scheduled training sessions

- Attend all scheduled supervision meetings with Supervisor and actively participate in the process

- Maintain documentation of activities according to program standards and guidelines

- Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA requirements of families

- Demonstrate understanding of different backgrounds, family situations, and values; provide services in a culturally sensitive manner

- Represent and advocate for UWSFC programs in the community

- Create and maintain positive relationships with referral sources and community partners

- As directed, represent UWSFC at special events or programs (events may be held outside regular work hours)

- Perform within the prescribed limits of UWSFC's ethics and compliance policies

- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

- High school diploma or GED required

- Higher education in Social Work, community organizing or related field preferred

- Bilingual (English/Spanish) required

- Experience working with infants, postpartum mothers and families, and parents with young children, representing a wide range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds preferred

- Ability to maintain accurate and current records and correspondence using both paper and electronic files

- Excellent interpersonal communication skills

- Ability to pass a mandatory background clearance required of all childcare workers in the State of New Mexico

- CPR certified within first 90 days of employment

- Reliable transportation with valid New Mexico driver's license, current automobile registration and proof of auto insurance

- Ability to work well in culturally diverse settings, which includes knowledge of local population served

- Ability to work independently and within a team setting

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, drive, and sit for long periods of time and use computer equipment and cell phones.

- The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift 40 pounds.

- Due to the home-based model of services, the employee is required to work in participant families' homes and community resource agencies and businesses. Extensive local travel is required and occasional long-distance travel may be required for training purposes.

All candidates are required to participate in pre-employment screening, background investigation and verification of education credentials, as well as proof of reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.

Compensation contingent upon experience, education, and certifications. Relocation funding is not available. EEO.
