The primary purpose of this position is to oversee our team of accountants and HUD bookkeepers (12 FTEs) that support all the senior living communities under the PRS umbrella. This individual will oversee all of our primary accounting operations and functions via 2 direct reports: our accounting managers, who in oversee our accountants and bookkeepers. Who We Are:Pacific Retirement Services is a non-profit senior living provider based out of Medford, Oregon. Our central office provides shared services in the form of Accounting, IT, HR, Media, and core management services to all of our entities. We own/operate 12 CCRCs in 6 states. Under the Community Housing banner, we have 25 Affordable housing (HUD) properties across Oregon, California, and Texas. This will be supported by quarterly reviews of objectives, accomplishments and growth opportunities. Assist the VP in Accounting with continually assessing and organizing the accounting department to achieve business objectives/needs. Responsible to communicate with the VP of Accounting and operational management staff, day-to-day accounting issues, consistency in processing the month-end close process for multiple CCRC?s and the other non-profit and for-profit entities.Responsible for preparing/reviewing timely interim financial statements (in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).) Ensure the financial statement close process is consistent among entities.Responsible for all financial information that is distributed internally/externally for designated communities.Assists the VP of Accounting with such tasks as coordination and overseeing of the annual audits, presentations to the Board of Directors as needed, and assistance with completion of Requests for Proposals (RFP?s) for professional services. Assist the VP of Accounting and CFO in developing operational efficiencies, working with external auditors, developing and monitoring key performance indicators, and integrates new business processes and systems into the financial statement close process.Responsible for recommending staffing decisions including hiring and terminating staff. These decisions will be reviewed by the VP of Accounting and approved by VP of Human Resources or General Counsel. Responsible for the supervision and review of the Accounting Managers, Senior Accountants, and/or Staff Accountants. Responsible for performing or coordinating the training and support to the Accounting Manager, Senior and/or Staff Accountants. Ensure staff evaluations are completed in a timely manner.Ensure effective internal controls are established within the PRS Accounting Department, as well as in affiliated and managed communities by working with Quality Improvement Manager and Assistant Controller of Budgets to identify weaknesses and implement internal controls. Responsible for the permanent accounting files and ensuring records are retained in accordance with policies and procedures.Participate in implementing new accounting systems (if necessary) in order to ensure accurate financial information is captured and reported in conformance with GAAP.About YouThis position requires a significant advanced knowledge of the accounting and business field including an understanding of the theoretical basis and some general knowledge of related fields, usually the result of a minimum of four (4) years of college with a BA/BS degree in accounting or business and several years in designated field.Current CPA preferred. Requires prior experience in a supervisory role, preferably in accounting. Requires prior experience in an accounting setting and direct experience with computerized accounting systems and an advanced knowledge of Excel.Requires a strong understanding of GAAP, business contracts, payroll regulations, and other outside reporting principles and regulations.
