The City of Ellensburg has a vacancy in our water division for a Senior Pipeperson. An employee in this position will be expected to address operational needs, as assigned, in the maintenance, repair, and construction of the municipal water system. Will respond to customer needs and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

Perform assigned water system maintenance, repair, and construction; respond to water emergencies during and after hours as required; participate in the weekly on call rotation for after hour emergencies

Participate in continuing education programs to update knowledge of methods and regulations; maintain knowledge of current laws and regulations governing water quality; participate in safety training and maintain required licenses, permits and certifications.

Train and supervise temporary and student laborers as assigned; perform as lead person or temporary foreperson as assigned

Serve on the snow removal crew and assist with the annual sealcoat program; collect system data to support GIS mapping; maintain accurate records of work performed

This position is represented by Teamsters Union, Local #760. Regular City of Ellensburg employees (applicants) covered by Teamster’s Local Union #760 will be given first consideration

Salary: $21.57 - $28.76/hour, 40 hours/week

Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Water Division Senior Pipepersons shall be required to have or obtain WDM 1 certification within twelve (12) months of becoming eligible to obtain certification; Flagging Card, First Aid/CPR; Trenching and Shoring; Valid State Driver’s license required with Commercial Driver's License endorsement preferred. Employee will be required to have a CDL within 6 months of employment at the expense of the employee with the option to borrow the expense of training from the City with a signed loan agreement; maintain insurable driving record; Forklift Certification; Asbestos handling.

Special Requirements:

The City of Ellensburg is required by federal regulation to administer a testing program for controlled substance and alcohol use for employees required to have and maintain a CDL. This position is covered under the City of Ellensburg Substance Abuse Testing Policy.

Must have ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; ability to work safely. Knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in the water industry.
