THE POSITION
All County of Santa Barbara employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law ( ). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect.
Employees hired into this position will be mandated Disaster Service Workers.
The County of Santa Barbara is currently accepting applications to fill temporary short-term vacancies for the County in response to the COVID-19 pandemic for immediate hire .
These positions are classified as Extra-Help Appointments (Civil Service Rule 905), and is defined as an appointment made to a non-regular, non-permanent position(s) established on a temporary basis to meet peak loads, unusual work situations, seasonal and recurrent work, intermittent assignments, or emergencies.
THE POSITION :
Under general supervision, the RISE Ambassador will assist county businesses and residents in understanding and complying with current Health Officer Orders related to Covid-19 in Santa Barbara County.
In addition, under general supervision, the RISE Team Lead will oversee the County’s Covid-19 Ambassador teams within a specific jurisdiction or area of the county including scheduling and supervision of Ambassadors and coordination of team efforts to meet goals established by the Ambassador Program Lead.
Candidates may be appointed at the Ambassador or the Team Lead level, depending on the candidate's qualifications and needs of the department.
NOTE : The work schedule for the position varies between 6-8-hour shifts, Sunday through Thursday from 8 AM 8 PM and Friday to Saturday from 8 AM 10 PM.
Employees will have days off, but the position does require that an employee work 6-8 hour shifts in order to facilitate the continuity of assignment.
The work schedule for these positions will be dependent upon the needs of the hiring department.
This position requires incumbents to be physically present in locations within the County of Santa Barbara to be determined by the hiring department.
The Incumbent must be willing to travel to and work at various locations throughout Santa Barbara County. The incumbent will be fully fitted with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and trained into this position. Examples of Duties
Ambassadors Example of Duties :
Contact individuals and businesses either in person or by phone to assist them in understanding the current Health Officer Covid-19 Orders
Work in unincorporated areas of the county including remote locations as needed; i.e. may be assigned to support in Cuyama
Contact individuals and businesses either in person or by phone to assist them in understanding the current Health Officer Covid-19 Orders
Utilize strong documentation and organizational skills to maintain effective schedules and records of outreach efforts and outcomes
Utilize interpersonal skills to work with a variety of individuals and businesses
Comfortable initiating contact in person or via telephone cold calls
Flexibility and adaptability to work within a continuously changing landscape.
Traveling longer distances through business areas may be required so individual should be comfortable walking or moving from location to location without the use of a vehicle.

Team Lead Example of Duties :
Recruit, train, and supervise oversee Ambassadors within assigned area
Maintain schedule of Ambassadors throughout the week and including weekends
Disseminate information received from the Program Lead in a timely and coordinated fashion
Document all contacts and outcomes in tracking software
Relay important updates or challenges to the Program Lead
Communicate support needs to ensure a streamlined approach
Meet with team to review new Health Officer Orders or Governor Announcements to discuss information how to distribute information effectively
Coordinate all efforts to identify sectors that need additional support, targeted outreach, and planning for larger community events
Good organizational skills required.
Access to email and a smart phone or Wi-Fi enabled tablet a plus but not required in the field
Employment Standards
Ambassador : This is an entry level position with no prior experience required, however candidates must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
In addition, this position requires cold calls and outreach to businesses without advance notice.
Team Lead : For consideration in this position, candidates with a minimum of 1 year in a leadership role, supervising others, or in a role with increasing responsibilities are ideal.
In addition, this position requires effective communication skills effectively both verbally and in writing.
Additional Requirement : Possession of a CA Class C Driver's License is required at the time of appointment.
Dependent on Bargaining Unit in which position is filled.
