This position will be responsible in part for:

  • Collaborating with lab management and lead technicians to prioritize and conduct crucial lab projects.

  • Taking the initiative to meet and exceed expectations through leadership and work ethic.

  • Operating and maintaining a variety of laboratory equipment.

We are looking for recruits to pursue their career and help advance and maintain the Lab. Ultimately, you will help us build a strong technical facility and ensure we provide essential data to refinery operations, engineering, and marketing.

The Requirements

To meet the basic qualifications for this role you will have some refinery lab experience and you must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S. for any employer for any length of time, without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship.

  • Must be proficient with MS Office Suite software.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, reach – fully use the laboratory

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, and on occasion more

  • 20/40 vision (with or without corrective lenses), hearing ability

  • Wear necessary safety equipment (e.g. safety glasses, earplugs, steel-toed boots, hard hat), as required

The preferred qualifiers, but not requirements, that will help you hit the ground running, are:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree, Engineering preferred, or

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Knowledgeable with modern analytical instrumentation, including monitoring, calibrating, and maintaining.

  • Chemistry knowledge in a refinery laboratory also preferred. (Wet chemistry, chromatography, physical state analysis)
  • Thorough knowledge of petroleum products.

  • Knowledge of the ASTM methods used for petroleum testing desired.

The Role

Reporting to the Lab Manager, you will be part of an eleven-person team in the lab that runs 24/7/365, including a chemist and eight other technicians who worked their way up in the company and into the lab. We work twelve-hour shifts, four days a week. There will be flexibility to work after hours or cover emergencies as needed. You will participate in all lab testing, including specialized testing such as government jet fuel and the Quality Assurance Program.

  • Ensure all equipment is calibrated and maintained.

  • Assist the tech services group on projects.

  • Assist in laboratory operation and management.

  • Analyze control charts to verify that instruments are in control.

  • Prepare samples for shipping.

  • Organize and complete studies, and report the findings.

  • Perform initial troubleshooting of instruments and coordinator repairs, if needed.

  • Ensure laboratory equipment and solutions are properly maintained.

  • Develop and administer maintenance and calibration procedures.

  • Ensure that calibration and maintenance programs are adhered to as required by military contracts.

  • Priority in safety and environmental compliance.

  • Willingness to multitask and manage different projects simultaneously.
