Job Description

Fully qualified individual. Perform all types of sheet metal work involving layout, shearing, punching, forming, fabrication, removal and replacing, and erection of complicated and other sheet metal installations.

Set up and operate sheet metal tools. Direct others.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Fully qualified journeyman Sheet Metal

Ability to qualify as a full journeyman with the appropriate union affiliated with HAMTC. This must be reflected in the resume submitted

1 year of Journeyman-level Sheet Metal experience

Must have a valid state-issued driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer a graduate of formal Sheet Metal apprenticeship program or a qualified Sheet Metal Journeyman with a minimum of at least 3 years of experience at the journey level

Possess skills in utilizing electronic work request systems / tracking for tablets or Smartphones

Ability to study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements

Ability to utilize and interpret blueprints to determine how and where to fabricate, assemble, and install sheet metal products

Ability to measure, mark dimensions, and lay out material to be installed using tools such as scribes, rulers, calculators and squares

Ability to fasten joints and seams in sheet metal with solder, welds, caulk, bolts and metal driver clips, ensuring work is done carefully and bonds will last.

Install assemblies, including pipes, HVAC ducts, flashings, rain gutters and furnace casings in supportive frameworks

Ability to use hand and power tools to trim, buff, smooth, file and grind metal surfaces and joints of parts that have been assembled to ensure safety and a seamless appearance

Ability to select the appropriate type and gauge of sheet metal to be used in projects according to specifications

Ability to understand and maintain a safe working environment for themselves and for their co-workers and embody a questioning attitude to create a safe working atmosphere

Special / Hazardous Working Conditions or Environment :

Position may be subjected to working around radiation, chemicals, asbestos, lasers, carcinogens, and other material in a laboratory environment

Job assignments may involve working near hazardous materials such as nuclear, fissionable, and dangerous waste

Must be able to safely and effectively utilize all tools, materials, and equipment common to the trade

This position is subject to changing to a swing shift if the need arises

Working near or with hazardous materials such as Asbestos, Beryllium, Magnetic Fields, or Radiation Zones

This is a bargaining unit position and will be under the Battelle / HAMTC Labor Contract. As a condition of employment, unless otherwise exempted, the staff member will be required to join the appropriate union affiliated with the Hanford Metal Trades Council (HAMTC) after 30 days of continuous service and pay union dues or pay agency fees to such union in lieu of joining
