Position: Annex Staff

Yellow Brick Road Benefit Shop is a mission outreach of Carmel Presbyterian Church. Employees of YBR are legally employees of Carmel Presbyterian Church and are bound by the general provisions of both the CPC and the YBR Employee Handbooks.

General Responsibilities:

All staff reports to the Executive Director unless otherwise noted.

All employees perform any staff functions as directed by the Executive Director, a manager, or a member of the Board.

YBR staff works cooperatively with volunteers, providing support and assigning tasks as needed.

All employees are expected to treat customers respectfully and provide them with courteous and efficient service and any needed documentation.

All employees are expected to keep their areas clean and tidy.

Required Qualifications:

All YBR personnel are required to be physically able to perform lifting in order to accomplish tasks required in any location. As a general guideline, individual lifting is limited to objects not exceeding 30 lbs; lifting with a partner is limited to objects not exceeding 75 lbs. Specific furniture-moving positions will have their own guidelines.

Staff are expected to attend meetings and training as requested by the Executive Director.

Specific Responsibilities for the Position:

The following list is not exhaustive. Employees are expected to exercise appropriate judgment and common sense in dealing with any situation that arises.

Receiving:

Collaborate with the Board Members, staff, and volunteers to establish and maintain a working environment of respect, courtesy, and kindness towards all donors, customers, travelers, and organizational partners.

Communicate daily with the Executive Director or other manager about the day’s guidelines; including what items should be handled as “low inventory.”

Accept all donations with appreciation and direct to the proper location, unless the Annex is “closed” because of excess inventory or the donations do not meet YBR’s acceptance requirements or quality. In this case, explain to the donor and, if appropriate, suggest an alternate time or location for their donations.

General Merchandise:

If unsure about assigning donations to categories or about pricing, check with a manager.

Determine acceptability and assign rejected items for delivery to other charities or to be trashed.

Price items using comparisons with other YBR merchandise and the standard pricing lists posted in the Annex. Prices should typically be ¼ to ½ under retail.

Prepare and store holiday donations in specifically marked, accessible storage containers.

Clothing:

If unsure about assigning donations to categories or about pricing, check with a manager.

Determine acceptability and sort for resale, mending, or “As is” resale. Identify designer-style clothing with a recognizable label or “Boutique” tag. Rejected items are assigned for distribution to other charities or to be trashed.

Prioritize the processing of the day’s designated “low inventory” items.

Clean and store acceptable shoe donations, advising the manager about high-quality items.

Follow designated steps for rejected or other items that are desired by staff or volunteers.

Keep inventory flowing by maintaining one clothing rack ready for the next business day, and preparing back stock of additional items for delivery to the store when space allows.

Maintain a list of needed supplies for clothing processing and submit to the manager weekly. Refer to the approved list of supplies posted in the Annex.

Prioritize the processing of clothes items which have been identified by the ED or Manager as low inventory items in the Store.

Have one clothing rack with “new merchandise” for the start of the next business day.

Prepare back stock of additional items for delivery to the Store when space allows.

Maintain a list of supplies needed for the Annex.

Prepare and store Holiday donations in appropriately marked storage containers and boxes must be accessible when needed.
