Roles and Responsibilities

Update SOPs and forms as necessary from HACCP reassessments, program changes, corrective actions, etc.

Provide production support, decision making for food safety/quality issues.

Assist in preparing for audits (customer, BRC, etc.).

Supports process and practices necessary to maintain and improve the food safety culture.

Leads and directs the work of the Quality Assurance Team.

Provides functional, technical, and process leadership to the team.

Ensuring that all process owners and Supervisors develop and maintain their part of the food safety management system.

Ensure that FDA, FSIS and corporate requirements and expectations are being met or exceed expectations.

Develop strategic plans to achieve goals and targets within deadlines.

Promoting food safety achievements and performance.

Maintaining constant awareness of food safety standards.

Bringing together Production and Quality Assurance staff and driving the group to formulate and agree on comprehensive food safety procedures.

Monitor sanitation team compliance to standards through audits, inspections and analysis.

Ensure that audits, procedures, and SOPs are properly understood and executed by the QA Team.

Pinpointing food safety related training needs.

Requirements

Perform verification and validation of Preventive Controls, HACCP and Prerequisite Programs.

Perform and Lead Internal audits.

Conduct/ensure PPC, CCP and Prerequisite program training.

Provide reports and feedback to top managers on the effectiveness and suitability of the food safety systems.

Review documentation for completeness and accuracy.

Follow up on corrective actions and preventative measures.

Suggest and implement changes in the working conditions and use of equipment to increase food safety.

Prompt investigation and distribution of details of non-conforming inspections and test results.

Liaison between plant and USDA.

Investigates Customer complaints.

Interface with other departments to develop a strong food safety awareness culture.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Agricultural Science or related field and/or a minimum of 5 years of experience in food manufacturing in a QA Management position.

Experience with FDA and USDA Regulations.

HACCP and PCQI Certified.

Experience with GFSI Audits (Preferably BRC).

Strong attention to detail with good oral, written and technical skills.

Good decision making with the ability to think and work under pressure.

Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and organize work effectively.
