The Nurse Practitioner provides routine care and management of the patient with acute and chronic complaints, in collaboration with the supervising physician and through implementation of standardized procedures. Specific functions pertaining to the Service, Clinic or Department are established by the Nurse Practitioner and the supervising physician(s), and approved by the appropriate medical and nursing administrators, the IDPC, and the Stanford Hospital and Clinics (SHC) Medical Executive Board and Board of Directors.Physician Assistant (PA): The Physician Assistant functions under the general Physician Assistant Role Description approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (IDPC). Specific functions pertaining to the Service, Clinic or Department are established by the Physician Assistant and his or her supervising physician(s), and approved by the appropriate medical and nursing administrators, the IDPC, and the Stanford Hospital and Clinics (SHC) Medical Board and Board of Directors.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSEvaluates and treats post cardiac surgery patients in the Intermediate ICU. Manages acute post op issues as well as chronic co-morbidities.Works closely with multi-disciplinary team to coordinate patient throughput and discharge planning.Obtains complete histories and performs pertinent physical exams with assessment of normal and abnormal findings.Performs or requests and evaluates diagnostic studiesAdministers, orders, furnishes and/or prescribes medicationsOrders and collects specimens for routine laboratory tests, screening procedures and therapeutic procedures, including blood and blood productsOrders physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology examinations and nursing servicesPerforms designated procedures after demonstrated competencyResponsible for admission of transfers@as well as post-op readmissions.Performs in house and ED consults to cardiac surgery service.Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, families, staff and members of the community from diverse backgroundsRecognizes situations which require the immediate attention of a physician, and initiates life-saving procedures when necessaryFacilitates the coordination of inpatient and outpatient care and servicesFacilitates collaboration between providers and coordination of community resourcesProvides and coordinates patient teaching and counseling.Tracks and interprets test results and answers questions either directly or over the phoneDevelops and implements processes / procedures to promote effective and efficient use of resources.Other duties as required.All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, sex, color, religion, national origin, protected veteran status or on the basis of disability.Equal Opportunity Employer Stanford Health Care (SHC) strongly values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity and non-discrimination in all of its policies and practices, including the area of employment. Current RN licensure and current Nurse Practitioner Certification in the State of California required. 2. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a nationally accredited nursing organization (e.g., ANCC, AACN, or National Academy of Nurse Practitioners) is required. 3. A clinical Master's degree from an accredited program 4. 1-2 years as an advanced practice provider is preferred.PAs: 1. Current PA licensure and current PA Certification in the State of California required. Certification as a Physician Assistant by a nationally accredited Physician Assistant organization (e.g., NCCPA or ARC-PA) is required. 2. A bachelor's degree is required. 3. A health-related Master's degree is preferred. 4. 1-2 years as an advanced practice provider is preferred
