For more information, visit www.ethicon.com.Overview:The Robotics Software Engineers will have a combination of technical knowledge and experience designing, simulating and implementing software for robotics systems. He/She will create and evaluate new and existing technology for suitability and to achieve optimum results. He/She will understand the whole system from both a technical perspective and the user’s viewpoint, and contribute algorithms and software implementations that ultimately drive definition and development of future products that will set new industry benchmarks of robotic surgical capability. We are looking for a candidate that can work independently and function well within a team, and is flexible, self-motivated, curious and passionate about revolutionizing the world of medical robotics.Core Job Responsibilities:

Work with software and other engineers (mechanical, electrical, systems) as part of a focused cross-functional team developing software for medical applications

Work closely with systems and instrument engineers to implement and test various algorithms

Interface with low-level robotic hardware controllers

Design and implement C software in a real-time, safety critical environment

Quickly implement concept proofs and prototypes, and test on systems

Participate in design discussions and code reviews

Qualifications

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Robotics or Computer Science is required.

A minimum of 2 years of experience OR a master’s Degree in Robotics or Computer Science is required.

One or more years hands-on experience designing and implementing software for robotic systems is required.

In-depth understanding of computer science fundamentals is required. (e.g. algorithms, data structures, object-oriented design in UNIX environments)

Proficiency with C/C programming and multi-threaded applications is required.

Excellent communication and documentation is required.

Ability to work in a regulated environment in compliance to ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820 is required.

This position is located in Redwood City, CA and Santa Clara, CA and may require up to 5% travel.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, And Experience

Knowledge of robotics principles (kinematics and controls)

Familiarity with real-time software and event drive architectures

Familiarity with an Agile development environment

Familiarity with computer vision

Familiarity with controls theory
