Caretaker for Light on the Hill Retreat Center (Van Etten)

Nonprofit spiritual retreat center in Van Etten, New York seeks responsible, experienced Caretaker. The position is part-time, averaging 15 hours per week (usually three hours each weekday), with opportunities for more hours in the spring. The Caretaker will manage routine care, repairs, regularly planned maintenance, and unexpected issues that arise in the buildings and grounds of Light on the Hill, in close communication with, and reporting to, the Managing Director. Living on site is not a requirement, but living nearby is desirable. The successful candidate will offer on-call availability and flexibility to respond to emerging issues and will have (or will cultivate) appreciation for the organization’s mission.

Qualifications

Experience with mechanical systems, building maintenance, and landscaping; ability to drive a tractor and operate a snowplow.

Driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from the retreat center.

Strong communication skills to interface with Managing Director and other staff.

Ability to work with Google Drive documents for shared communications.

Availability to respond to on-call issues.
