Come be a part of our mission.Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Satellite and Ground Systems Operator to join a cross-discipline, specialty operations and engineering team located in Fairfax, VA.This individual will be responsible for: mission planning, system problem/anomaly resolution, data trending, operational product performance analyses. The team also provides program expertise on subsystems engineering and maintains a baseline of operational products for a highly complex system. This candidate will have an active role in shaping the basis of how to execute planning, operations and collections, and they should be a self-starter who has a passion for space and teamwork.Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Supporting augmented shifts
  • Supporting a potential 24x7 operations throughout the flight demonstration phase of a complex space system.
  • Providing mission planning expertise to maintain spacecraft/payload and ground system health.
  • Developing and enhancing operational procedures, scripts, tools and processes.
  • l Investigating and diagnosing unexpected system signatures.
  • l Supporting the coordination and execution of system maintenance tasks across multiple contractor organizations including customer and external system partners.
  • Providing training and support to customer personnel and the development of TTPs for the system Candidate must be self-motivated, able to work in a dynamic team environment and work under general direction while independently determining and developing approaches to solutions.
Basic Qualifications:
  • For Principal- Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) with 5+ years' experience in a related engineering field, such as: mechanical, electrical, aerospace and/or operations, or Master's degree in STEM discipline with 2+ years of related experience, a PhD; or 9+ years of related experience in lieu of degree.
  • For Sr. Principal- Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) with 9+ years' experience in a related engineering field, such as: mechanical, electrical, aerospace and/or operations, or Master's degree in STEM discipline with 7+ years of related experience, a PhD with 4+ years of related experience; or 13+ years of related experience in lieu of degree.
  • Knowledge and experience in satellite operations and/or ground systems with activities including command and control, mission planning and ground system operations
  • Knowledge with use of Linux-based Operating Systems
  • Current Top Secret clearance with SCI.
  • Experience interacting closely with customers in an operational environment.
  • Experience supporting mission simulations, scripting, rehearsals and system verification activities.
  • Experience with troubleshooting, anomaly resolution and performing analysis on operational systems.
  • Ability to develop and maintain operational procedures, products and training materials.
  • Ability to work odd and/or extended hours covering a 24/7 period and periodic rotating shifts'
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity/exposure to orbital mechanics/Astrodynamics.
  • Experience with rendezvous and proximity operations or formation flight.
  • Familiar with Astrodynamics tools such as System Tool Kit (STK), FreeFlyer NASA General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT), Orbit Determination Toolbox (ODTBX).
  • Proficiency with one or more of the following programming languages/tools: MATLAB, Python, SIMULINK, and Bash Scripting
  • Knowledge of KRATOS Compass software
  • Basic knowledge of RF Communications Systems
  • Prior aerospace-related work experience for a U.S Government Agency or Contractor.
  • Familiarity with satellite subsystems to include attitude control, power management, thermal control, propulsion, command and data handling or flight/ground software.

Salary Range: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD

Salary Range 2: $129,700 USD - $194,500 USD Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
