Please review the job details below.Maxar is currently seeking a Senior Systems Engineering Specialist with a strong background in mission analysis, orbit dynamics and software development. We are engaged in new and exciting business, and we would like to add you to our robust team in Palo Alto, CA. You will be in the forefront of developing new tools and software for mission analysis and operations.Your Project: We are evolving towards new business areas such as interplanetary missions and low and middle Earth orbit constellations and systems. As such, we are in the process of upgrading and developing our tools, technology and software to support these pursuits. We have numerous flight proven software that have been used in the past decades for geosynchronous orbit (GEO) mission analysis and mission operations. In addition, the work will also provide the opportunity for applications to real world operations.What You Will Do Day-to-Day:

  • Assess and evaluate current tool suite capability
  • Develop new mission analysis capability to non-traditional pursuits (non-GEO)
  • Lead development into new algorithms, processes, and tools
  • Develop additional modules to current tools to address existing deficiencies
  • Participate in mission analysis for proposal support and current programs
Minimum requirements for this position:
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status required
  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering or physics (or a related field) plus 8 years of professional related experience; PREFERRED Master's degree in aerospace engineering or physics (or a related field) plus a minimum of six years of experience, or, Ph.D. in STEM related field and a minimum of 4 years of professional related experience will be considered.
  • Experience in MATLAB, FORTRAN, and C programming languages
  • Knowledge of:
    • Advance orbit dynamics (N-Body Problem)
    • Analytical and numerical methods
    • Optimization techniques
    • System dynamics and controls analysis
    • Propulsion systems
Desired skills (Nice to have):
  • Experience in mission operations and orbit raising planning
  • Low thrust mission planning and trajectory analysis
  • Rendezvous and proximity operations analysis
  • Knowledge of basic spacecraft systems
  • Version control: GitHub or Gitlab
  • Knowledge of NASA software or COTS
    • NASA Copernicus Trajectory Design and Optimization System
    • NASA General Mission Analysis Tool
    • a. i. solutions FreeFlyer Software
