The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, developmental planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape future space missions across the national security space enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including Air Force Space Command, U.S. Strategic Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation.The Nuclear Operations Directorate (NOD) is seeking a Project Engineer to provide mechanical engineering support to the USAF Long Range Stand Off (LRSO) Program Office Air Vehicle group with development, test, and production of the LRSO Cruise Missile. The position requires someone with experience in structural mechanics such as composite materials, nonlinear materials, plates and shells, energy and finite element methods, fracture, and fatigue.This position will be a hybrid work model with the majority of work performed onsite at a Government facility at Eglin AFB, FL.This position is available as a Mechanical Engineer or Sr. Mechanical EngineerWhat You'll Be Doing
- Provide mechanical engineering support to the USAF Long Range Stand Off (LRSO) Program Office Air Vehicle group with development, test, and production of the LRSO Cruise Missile.
- Identify, evaluate, and resolve structural design and test issues, anomalies, and challenges across space structural systems
- Perform and/or coordinate detailed structural analyses to identify failure mechanisms and Modes
- Develop and assess design criteria, requirements and specifications for cruise missile systems and mechanical interfaces
- Perform critical assessments of structural/mechanical designs and development plans during preliminary and detailed design phases of cruise missile programs, participate in development of analysis and verification plans and monitor contractors' analysis and test programs
- Offer technical consultation and advice to management, customers, contractors and government agencies in formulating and assessing test plans, procedures, objectives and success criteria that contribute to the development and execution of test programs for development, qualification, and acceptance of structures as well as provide real-time monitoring of test execution
- Perform critical reviews of flight hardware pedigree prior to flight and evaluate and assess all risks
- Initiate the development of advanced concepts and technology for structural design, test, and evaluation
- Develop technology roadmaps for the transition of advanced concepts and technology including additive manufacturing
- Maintain state-of-the-art skills in activities related to design, evaluation, and testing of cruise missile structural systems
- Take initiative to inform management of perceived technical problems and recommendcourses of action and then, coordinate activities with both inter-organizational personnel, program office points of contact, and customer contacts when necessary to scope, plan, and resolve technical issues
- A Bachelor of Science degree in science or engineering from a recognized institution
- 8 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in a systems engineering and/or program management environment
- Minimum two or more years of relevant structural mechanics experience
- Experience programming in C, C, HTML, Python, JAVA
- Willing to travel domestically approximately 25% of the time
- Must possess strong organizational, time management, and project management skills
- Willingness to work in team environment and interpersonal skills to work with internal/external customers
- Position requires a current Secret or DoE L clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance. The clearance must have a closeout date in the last six years (must be able to obtain a DoD Top Secret SCI clearance)
- Candidate must receive program access approval prior to being hired
- 12 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in a systems engineering and/or program management environment
- Same requirements as above
- Master of Science degree in science or engineering from a recognized institution
- Five or more years of relevant structural mechanics experience
- Current Top Secret or DoE Q clearance
- Experience interfacing with DOD customers in a program office environment
- Experience supporting acquisition and operation of strategic weapons systems
- Experience in working in an autonomous work environment on complex projects
